I'm thinking of getting a foam gun to aid in the washing process. I have watched a few videos but have this question. Do you need to switch from the foam gun to a regular nozzle to rinse or can you switch the foam off and rinse with the foam gun still connected? It would seem like a lot of effort to swith the foam gun out for every panel but in the videos I'm watching the user always seems to be rinsing without the gun.

I suppose you could remove the canister with soap which would allow just water to flow thru foam gun. I just use quick connects and can snap on/off foam gun, then rinse nozzle, and even other high pressure nozzles and such as desired.

It takes half a second with the quick connects to remove the gun from the nozzle and spray.

I like to foam down the vehicle and let it set to break up the dirt. Then I use my mitt while spraying foam with the other hand to wash panels.

+1 about the quick connects. I have them installed on my hoses and attachments and they make switching attachments easier. Here's the link, the one's you want are towards the bottom, model #'s G-03V, G-09QC, and G-09QCM-3:

I do the same thing, except I use a wash bucket, don't you?

I Have a foam cannon and a gas powered pressure washer. I have quick connects on the cannon and on the presssure wand. It takes some getting use to going from one to the other about 5 secs.

:iagree: I do the same. I foam my mitt, too. The quick connect is definitely a time saver. But, I agree, it would be nice if you could just switch between foam and no foam, leaving the canister attached.

On the foam gun there is a little rod that slides back and forth to control how much soap is mixed with the water. On the side there is a little piece of metal sticking up. In the up position the soap flows through and mixes with the water. If you take and rotate it 90 degrees then the soap can't mix with the water and you'll be able to rinse. It literally takes no time. It's simply flipping a switch.

If that doesn't make sense let me know and I'll take a couple pictures.

OMG, you're exacty right. I just tried it. How cool. :urtheman:

Thanks to everyone for all of the replies and help. Which size foam gun makes sense - Half Gallon or Quart? I will typically be using this for washing one car in session.

Kronos - thanks for the link to the shut off valves. I will be getting those as well.

I have the half gallon, but I usually have a some solution left over. I just leave it in the canister for the next time. My preference for solution is one capfull of ONR Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine 32 oz. New Formula! - OPT-900 and a capfull +runover of DP Extreme Foam DP Xtreme Foam Formula Auto Shampoo - DP-800 :props:

I use a Y splitter with shut off valves and two hoses, one goes to the PW for Foam Cannon (or Foam Gun if that's what you have) the other hose is for rinsing/final sheeting. Also great for when a buddy is washing at the same time, as usual. My $0.02
