I was told using EXO over C1 would make extreme durability, while still retaining slickness you get from EXO. Has anyone ever tried this?

I am interested in some feedback on this too!

Yes, works great. Seems like using them together may even amplify the benefits of both.

What would the process be to due this? Since exo needs to be applied in a chemically stripped surface how would one apply it over c1 and what would the cure time need to be for c1 before you can apply exo?

I typically wait 12 hours after applying C1 before applying EXO. Because C1 is the new surface of the substrate it is already chemically stripped.

How many layers of each did you use and what did you use after everthing was all said and done, a quick detailer ....... or something else???

I typically use only one layer of C1 but you can layer that after it has fully cured. With EXO I apply the recommended two coats 30 minutes apart. This process is essentially just one coat of EXO though, the second coat is to ensure adequate coverage. If you are going to apply more coats of EXO you must wait for it to fully cure.

what QD do u use down the road to keep the EXO on top of the C1 looking nice. And what do you do with the C1.5 that comes with it? I dont want to pay for something I dont use.

Can you use any quick detailer with EXO...or is it best to stick with Gtechniq products?

As for C1.5, some people use it to maintain EXO but I prefer C2 diluted 1:20 or Meg's Final Inspection. Something that doesn't get in the way of EXO too much and allows it to do its job.

Transmitted from the Dream Detail studio.

How long until C1 is usually fully cured to apply a second layer?

Thanks, do you think 2 layers of c1(12 hours apart) followed by a 12 hr cure time and 2 coats of exo 30 min apart should work well? Also, does wurth clean solve work well to strip the paint prior to c1? Btw, which towel do you recommend for Exo and c1 I was told a plush microfiber isn't recommended.

12 hours to be certain. Could be as little as 3 hours in warm temperatures but i always wait 12.

That application process should work quite well. As far as I know clean-solve should be fine for C1, maybe even a bit overkill. I generally use cheap towels that I don't mind throwing away. I tried the CarPro suede towels and didn't like those. I have used towels from Home Depot before, I use them straight out of the packaging and they work fine. Received a few towels from Gtechniq and I'll see how they work sometime next week. They're basically general purpose towels but feel softer than most.

So how much of these nano coatings are out there? I know there's Opti-coat and EXO from Gtechniq. With so much new products coming out I can't keep up. Although I'm still new to detailing so it be just because I'm new that I find it overwhelming with all the products out there.

Out of all these coatings. Which is the easiest to apply? I'm new to polishing and I'm not confident in getting into something complicated.
I have two cars that are daily drivers that are parked outside 24/7 and I want to do some paint correction before putting the coatings on.

There is the new 22ple. Which I have heard great things about hopefully AG will pickup the line but I have seen it at other retailers.

The coating companies i can name from the top of my head:
CarPro
Gtechniq
Optimum
Nanolex
22ple
Modesta
Max Protect
... etc.. Even Meguiar's has some coatings in Japan, supposedly durability is horrendous on them.

I have only used Gtechniq & 22ple. (Just became a 22ple authorized installer last week.) I have heard Opti-Coat is the worst to apply. Gtechniq & 22ple rank on the same level of easiness to me, some people say 22ple is easier. I will be getting some Nanolex to try out sometime this weak. Nanolex seems to assure me that their coatings are easier to apply but we'll see....

Thanks. Don't forget to drop by a let us know how it is when you get the chance.

Also does Gtechniq have more than 1 coating products? Seems like theres EXO, C1.5, and Crystal Lacquer. These products seems very similar. So when members are talking about Gtechniq which coating are they referring to?

Will do. I plan on making a real-life test panel out of the hood of my truck with 22ple, C1, EXO & some Nanolex product.

All of Gtechniq's coating products are different. The order of ascension is like this: C1.5, C2, C1/4/5, EXO.

C1.5 Silo Seal is probably the closest to CarPro's Reload. It offers no scratch resistance but does have the slick feel that C1/4/5 do not have. It is very easily layered and gloss increases with each layer. It is a great spray sealant and can be applied to any exterior surface. Here is a video I made of C1.5: Dream Detail - Gtechniq C1.5 Silo Seal - YouTube
I offer Silo Seal as the included coating with all of my correction services. The customer can then upgrade from there.

C2 Liquid Crystal is developed under permission of Permanon. I'm not sure if Permanon manufactures it or whether Gtechniq just uses some of their patents. It can be applied directly onto a wet surface and can be diluted 1:20 to create a quick detailer. It has slightly more durability and hydrophobicity than C1.5.

C1 Crystal Lacquer is the coating that is most similar to other coatings. Its closest relative is 22ple, though it may add more gloss & durability. It is scratch resistant, designed to last 2 years, and dirt/water repellent. C4 Trim Restorer & C5 Wheel Armor are variations of C1 designed to bond better to their intended substrates. Not as much variation between those three as there is with the 22ple VM1, VR1, & VX1.

EXO Ultra Durable Hybrid Coating is in a class of its own. It is a hybrid between an inorganic and organic coating. The organic part is what adds all of the dirt/water/oil repellency. I have not seen any other coating match its hydrophobicity or dirt repellent, 'self-cleaning' properties. It is not as scratch resistant as C1 in the way of hardness but provides its own type of scratch resistance by cleaning easily. Most swirls are wash induced, therefore having water & dirt leave the surface easier helps reduce the chance of swirls. When layered over C1 it is probably one of the best coating combinations available. EXO can also bond to most any substrate. I bought some new shoes and they are wearing EXO right now. Now my feet won't get we while I wash cars :) :autowash:

Some C1 + EXO beading shots: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/show-n-shine/59828-gtechniq-exo-beading-shots.html

Then you have all the other coatings from Gtechniq that are not for paint: L1, I1, C6, G1, G5

Anyway, that's all I can recite from the top of my head this morning
