What's up Autogeeks! One of the main points of this video is to help drive enthusiasts to take that jump into paint polishing for those who haven't done so yet. But I think some of the geeks and autopians might enjoy the test results as well. As you can see from the video, the improvement in the performance of Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer (http://www.autogeek.net/sonax-brilliant-shine-detailer.html) applied after polishing the paint, is drastically better compared to only claying the paint prior to applying. And there are a lot of people out there who enjoy washing their cars that stop short of polishing because they're apprehensive about using a polishing system, so this highlights the importance in the level of prep that some waxes/sealants/coatings require in order to get the best results.

Aside from the paint being heavily contaminated, it was in pretty good shape with no heavy swirls, sun fading, or oxidation. To start off the test I washed it and then used a red Nanoskin Autoscrub Speedy Prep Sponge (http://www.autogeek.net/nanoskin-speedy-prep-sponge-combo.html), followed up with a regular clay bar to check visibly if all clayable contaminants were removed. The first rinse in the video showcases the hydrophilic water behavior after this decontamination step. Afterwards, I applied Sonax BSD to the paint, gave it a quick wash and rinse with Meguiar's Deep Crystal soap, and filmed the water behavior. Finally, I got out the Griot's 6" DA (http://www.autogeek.net/new-griots-polisher.html) polisher along with Meguiar's M205 (http://www.autogeek.net/meguiars-finishing-polish.html) and CarPro Eraser (http://www.autogeek.net/carpro-eraser-ipa.html) and performed a light polish with a Buff and Shine black finishing pad (http://www.autogeek.net/buff-and-shine-5-inch-flat-foam-pads.html). BSD was reapplied to the paint and you can see the full performance come immediately into action.

There are a few things that I want to note. BSD does not require any cure period in order for you to see its immediate water behavior, you can wash and rinse it directly after applying without negative results so long as it has bonded properly to prepped paint. CarPro Eraser or using an IPA wipedown prior to applying is not the cause of the improvement in the water behavior, only the polishing with M205. And one of the things I didn't mention in the video is the improvement in the application of BSD to the paint, it went on much more cleanly with no streaking. I noticed while applying it on top of only clayed paint, I was having a tougher time avoiding light streaks. Also, products don't require an abrasive polish prior to applying them every single time. Once you've polished it out you can go ahead and apply products on top of each other to notice a great performance, but once clayable contamination builds up then it's a good idea to follow the claying step with a light polish, otherwise you may notice a drop in the performance of your next LSP.

Finally, this improvement is not unique to Brilliant Shine Detailer, you'll notice better performance in a large amount of products after taking the paint to the next level through polishing. Now, the big question is how much of a difference would we see if I used an Iron X type product, or used a paint cleanser instead of an abrasive finishing polish? The testing continues!

Great video, Loach! Thanks. This would be a good video to show potential clients to demonstrate the dramatic affects of machining the paint before applying any LSP.
