Sadly the front end of of this car had been subjected to a repaint and the body shop really left these areas in a shocking state and so the objective was to sort these areas out and then get the rest of the paint (which wasn't too bad) mostly (it's still a daily driver) swirl free, and then protect everything, and give the interior a light clean up.

As there was no work to be done on the engine bay the next dirtiest area to clean was the wheels and undercarriage.

During

Fender wells : Pressure rinse / Carchem APC @ 1:5 / Dwell + Agitate / Pressure Rinse / Carpro PERL @ 1:2
Tyres : Pressure rinse / Carchem APC @ 1:5 / dwell + Agitate / Pressure Rinse / Carpro PERL neat x twice
Wheels and brake calipers : Pressure rinse / Valet Pro Billberry @ 1:5 / Dwell + Agitate / Pressure Rinse / Carchem Revolt / Dwell + Agitate / Pressure Rinse / Carpro Tar-x / Carpro PERL neat x twice / Dwell + Agitate / Pressure Rinse / Carpro Hydro

The rest of the vehicle was then cleaned and included all the often overlooked areas such as inside the fuel filler area, in and around badges or emblems, inside door shuts etc.

During

Pressure rinse / Auto Super Snow Soap / Dwell + Agitate / Pressure rinse / Carchem Luxury Shampoo + 2 buckets + lambswool wash mitts

The paint and glass was then decontaminated - Carchem Revolt / Dwell + Agitate / Pressure Rinse / Carpro Tar-x / Shield Heavy Duty Clay + Gyeon Clay Lube @ 1:1

With the paint now free of all the above surface dirt and contamination it could be properly inspected for below the surface defects. Multiple paint thickness readings were taken with the repainted panels being mostly around 220µ to 280µ and the OEM panels around 100µ to 130µ and after multiple test spots on each type of paint (repaint vs OEM) I settled on the following combos in the following areas:

Bonnet and Roof: Menzerna SHC300 + blue Lake Country hybrid foamed wool pads x 2 sets / Menzerna PF2300 + orange Lake Country hybrid pads
The bonnet was riddled with areas like this that from a bit of a distance looked like dull patches where there was no clear, but in reality were sanding marks and pigtails that were not polished out at the body shop.

Beautiful work on a stunning car Lawrence. :props:

The same can't be said about the standard of workmanship from the body shop however. Quality control must be the same the world over . . .

Fantastic turn around my friend - I never tire of reading your posts, staring at the superb photos, or your relentless first class detailing. Thank you for sharing Lawrence! :props:

Great work! That blue is amazing. I almost never see an R wearing it in my area and that is really a shame. It's stunning.

What LSP did you use on the paint? I read over your write-up a couple times and didn't see it.

Thanks so much Aaryn. Maybe there is an association, similar to the IDA but for body shops, where they all go to learn the wonderful art of leaving sanding marks in the paint. LOL. In any case, its what keeps the detailers in business so I guess we should be happy.

Thanks. Yeah I really dig this color. Can't believe I left out the LSP from the write up - sorry - it was Optimum Optiseal (paint was prepped with Gyeon Prep)

Great job on the car mate! Very well done. :props:

I have a question about the bonnet, in the before picture the light seems to have a grainy look to it. What causes that? The reason I ask is because my mum got her bonnet resprayed and that 'texture' didnt appear until about a month after the job.

Thanks James. Well to be honest I am not sure what causes that as I have little to no experience when it comes to the actual painting process. To me, it almost appears as though the paint has been sprayed too dry, but it is a very uneducated guess - hopefully someone with some actual painting skills can chime in?

Wow the reflection shot where the front of another blue car and the garage doors made me do a double take. I was at first trying to figure out what was wrong with the garage doors, the reflection was so good I didn't realize it was the reflection of the car at first.

Amazing work Lawrence! I enjoy your write ups.

Its unbelievable that its normal for body shops to let vehicles out the door with with sanding marks left in the paint. We know they let them out the door with halograming but leftover sanding marks?

Beautiful picture documentation BTW.
