Ok guys, finally put that sample to use that Meghan sent me (Thanks again)!
Working on a 2002 Grand Prix, black, very neglected paint. It's never been polished, and only seen "soft cloth" automatics much to my dismay. My future wife (5 months to go), owns it, sits outside 98% of the time. Lots of travel on back roads and gravel.
Car is full of swirls, and the front bumper and hood honestly need a repaint with all the micro cracks, rock chips (which a few are starting to rust), water and bug etching.
Anyways onto the process. I washed and clayed then topped with Mothers FX spray wax (not using the good stuff LOL) it a few weeks ago in prep for this then have been sidelined with no power for 8 days and work.
Anyways today...
ONR wash
Simple Green cut 3:1 for wheels and wells.
Simple Green cut 10:1 for bug guts on bumper, hood, and mirrors.
KAIO by hand with LC white hand applicator
Menzerna Glaze by rotary with LC CCS Blue pad
Menzerna Glaze by hand with LC CCS red hand applicator
Wolfgang DGPS by hand with MF applicator
Megs Hot Shine for tires and wells
First impressions of the glaze is it works decently and a little goes a long way. After I primed my pad with a little QD (ONR QD strength), and applied a small cross on it, I only needed about 3 pea sized drops from there out.
Removal on some areas though seemed problematic I'm not sure if I worked it too long or not long enough but it seemed to gum up on the paint. Not the pad but the paint. To get it off I either A had to use a lot of pressure, or B work it a second time. It also seemed to load up the MF towel (Supreme 530's) quite quickly, I went through 8 on this car for the glaze alone!
I seen a little difference in the black paint between the KAIO and glaze but not a whole lot. My wife couldn't really see the difference.
I mainly wanted to try this for it's filling abilities (would've made my life easier with this car). As I don't really want to polish out this car as the front end is almost a lost cause. It's filling abilities to me weren't all that noticeable and a lot of the swirls and such were still quite visible by flashlight (my halogens aren't here, and I ran out of sunlight).
The surface of the car felt kinda strange to me too afterwards. It felt slick and clean, but almost kinda squeaky I guess you would say.
I topped it with Wolfgang DGPS afterwards but it was dark and lighting in my garage isn't all that great (used a Scorpion flashlight to double check for missed sections).
I'll have my misses take some photo's tomorrow after she gets home from work of the finished product as I will be working a 18 hour shift.
All the befores and durings are here, afters tomorrow night.
