i'm stepping up to a rotary after a year with my PC.

as with my PC, i'm only going to use foam 5.5" and 4" pads.

my current stash is yellow, orange, white and green. mostly all CCS, all following the same color code (yellow hardest --> red softest order)

i rarely used yellow for anything other than incredible problem areas, i used mostly orange and white, while finishing with green and poli-seal. i say used because i know with the rotary i'll not need as much mechanical help as before, meaning my yellow pads will probably be totally out of the picture now.

i use all optimum products and i apply LSP by hand, which typically is opti-seal.

so, considering the power of the rotary, which should i pick to supplement my current pad selection?

step up to a finer CCS finishing pad (gray) as opposed to the green, get a red pad for final burnishing? both?

thx

I would pick up some wool pads and blue foam finishing pads. Pitch the yellow and orange pads. The wool takes the place of those. Plus the wool levels better and in the end it helps with your gloss level when the paint is more level.

thanks for the reply.

so blue for finish polishing, no need for red?

re: wool, i guess the 6.5" foamed wool? that will necessitate me to get yet another packing plate because the one for the 5.5" pads (rotary 4.75" plate) won't work with that, but if that's what i should get i guess that's what i should get, hehe.

I prefer a full wool pad, but other people seem to like the foamwool pads. I really like the blue pad for finishing, also hear great things about the gold finishing pad also but have yet to try it.

How many white pads should you keep on hand?

Well that is a hard question for me, I have about 20 of just white. I would have to say atleast 5 of each color that you are going to use. I use quite a few when detailing a car, less chance of any type of marring or product build up when always using a clean pad.
