I got mine in the pharmacy dept. at Walmart, it reads: 91% Isopropyl Alcohol (First Aid Antiseptic) on the label...:xyxthumbs:

(Yes it's the same).

I got some IPA rubbing achool 70%. oooops I should of gotton the 91%. I jus experimenting for a glass cleaner and fore IPA wipe downs. i wanna mix 25% white vinagar 25% achool and 50% water to test on windows. and I believe 50/50 for IPA wipe downs. I read it somewhere that you can use 50/50 white vinagar to remove water spots???

On the serious side, definitely, when H1N1 hit the state, parents (and others) were rushing around trying to disinfect everything! The only problem, it's supposedly less effective on viruses. If I remember correctly, the reason why they wipe alcohol on the skin before say, an injection, is to clean and remove oil from the area.

As others have already said, rubbing alcohol is usually the same as isopropyl (IPA). In Cali, IPA usually comes in 70% or 91%, and the rest is water. 70% is baseline for disinfecting. You may see some ethyl alcohol (labeled as rubbing alcohol), and may also see it labeled as "denatured." This is where something else is added to make it undrinkable.

A friend of mine uses 70% in his window cleaning solution and claims no problems. I've only used 91%, but if you already bought the 70%, why not give it a try?;)

I had picked up 91% at Kmart.

Many years ago when I used to clean electronic equipment I had been told that rubbing alcohol has added oils so they always said use bottles label IPA. However, I cannot find anything that confirmed this.

Hmm, interesting. It would be good to know for sure...

OK I took a bunch of quotes and commented but it got too long, so here's links to some info.

rubbing alcohol Can't link to a specific #### page? weird can't type wikipedia's abbreviation? CG, but CG is allowed now? Am I in the twilight zone?

Yes! The 50/50 vinegar water works great on water spots... Don't wait to long though or the water spots will eat into the clear coat.

When you guys do a IPA wipedown on your paint before you wax what is the concentration you use? Do you put it into a spray bottle and spray the paint like you would a quick detailer?

I don't use this process but I've wiped a lot of cleaners and solvents on paint, you want to have plenty of clean, soft microfibers on hand to wipe the paint with.

If the goal is to remove any residues off the surface then after you wipe with one side of a cloth you would want to switch to a new side so you don't merely transfer reside and you work around the car.

Mist and wipe, fold towel, mist and wipe, fold towel, mist and wipe etc...

I've had good luck with the Rubbermaid 32 ounce generic sprayer and they can be found at Target. We have a couple of generic spray bottles too on the Autogeek.net store.
