I tested some new products. I working with soft honda black paint with lots of defects. First, I used a surbuf pad and optimum spray compound with my Flex 3401 on speed 6. Took out most of the defects, but left behind a lot of marring which I expected. I then tried Wolgang finishing glaze with a white pad on speed 4.5. It took out a lot of the marring, but some was still left behind. So I decided to try optimum finish on a gray pad(same speed) thinking that would leave a marr free finish. However, the marring got WORSE with this combo! I went back over the same test spot with a white pad and wolfgang finishing glaze(which I did before), and the marring was less. How could a product and pad with less cut leave more marring?

Pad clean? Polish shaken up? Dunno man, but I have actually heard this happening several times before on soft Honda paint. Same exact symptoms as you with all sorts of different pads/products/tools.

Why did you not try the FG with the grey pad?? A white pad still has a little cut.

Ran out of time, but that definitely crossed my mind.

It has been a couple years since I have done a black Honda/Acura but for oem honda paint I have had success with white or orange LC pads coupled with Menz IP and then 85rd and black/grey pad.

I feel your pain Mark, my buddies Integra type-r's black paint is very finicky. We found Poorboy's Polish with Sealant to give the best final finish, but getting it to the point where it's ready for that final polish step was quite a task. I don't think I'll ever own a black Honda/Acura.

Some pads may be too soft to break down certain polishes with a DA. This is likely what caused your problem. May not have been using enough speed, either.

That makes sense, you gotta be sure that the diminishing abrasives actually "diminish". Good posting Matt! :props:
