A friend of mine texted me last night that he was thinking of buying a PC7424, some pads, and some polish.

Looking at the combo kits offered by AG, I can't decide which one to really recommend to him. Some have the 5-inch backing plate, but 6.5-inch pads (I would recommned 5.5-inch pads). Some have pad cleaner and conditioner included (I don't feel that is an absolute necessity to start out with), etc.

And what is the minimum number of pads yuo wold think he should start out with? I was thinking 4 LC pads, maybe 3 white and 1 yellow (for areas with more serious defects). He can still wax by hand until he get more money for detailing supplies (he had a baby son a month ago, so I am trying to keep his costs down to the necessities).

And best all around polish with good bang for the buck? Wolfgang is great, but you only get a little for the price (I think you can get twice as much PB's SSR1 for the same price of WG).

Thanks,
Neil

That might be a little above his budget.

When I asked him what his budget was, he said he liked the $170 price of one of the kits that I mentioned to him....

Trying to see if I can get him close to that range ($170-$200) by looking at items separately.

Thanks,
Neil

I had something similar.

PC7424
5-inch Lake Country Backing Plate
6 pack Lake Country flat pads (I was thinking one yellow, 3 white, and 2 blue)
Optimum Polish II 32 oz. (semed to be a good all-around polish that was pad dependant, so flexible for his needs)

Total was $197. He will have enough pads for and polish for a time and can add more stuff as his budget allows (he was asking about the 4-inch pads he has seen me use).

Thanks,
Neil

And I think he already has some wax to use. He told me he didn't need any....we'll see once he gets hooked on detailing and wants to try out different stuff, lol.

The kits will save you a bit but I would suggest skipping the kit and building his own.

Also I can't find the 5.5" pad with PC kits anymore...wonder what the heck AG did with that..

Seriously what happened to the 5.5 kits?

Found this If you’re in the market for a dual action polisher, look no further than the Porter Cable 7424! (http://www.autogeek.net/porter-cable-pad-kit.html) But we're missing the Menzerna polishes for ceramic clear coat paint, Porter Cable 7424 dual action buffer, Nano polish, super intensive, Lake Country pads, Show car kit (http://www.autogeek.net/menzerna-porter-cable-ceramic-show-car-kit.html) that came with 5.5" pads... Odd that they would get rid of them.

I don't like CCS pads with a DA. Dumb how they put them there and even more dumb how you can't say that you want the flat pads.
