Help with pad colors

SurBuf pads, you get 2 of them, and you don't have to worry about color. Use one for M105 and the other for M205

I have 2 dark blue bonnets and 2 light blue bonnets. I can use them with the white pad??? I think.

I am about to order a DA kit and seen where you can choose 5.5 inch pads with the PC. My question is which color pads to get? I will also be getting 105/205 combo, DP glass restorer. and some type of wax. Thanks for the help.

For pads there are a TON to choose from, but if you are only going to be taking care of your own vehicles, you don't need to own every pad out there. I would say grab a couple Surbuf pads for heavy compounding and quick defect removal, a couple Orange LC pads for heavy polishing, some White pads for medium/finishing polishing, and then some Black LC pads for finishing polishing and/or sealant and wax application.

Dude, that comment shouldn't even be allowed on this forum. Why would you go and tell someone trying to learn to finish with Surbuf pads? I'm not saying you never can finish with them, but it surly isn't often that Surbuf pads will leave an LSP ready finish. I'm all for people experimenting and finding out what works for them, but to say all you need is surbuf pads is just plain wrong.

I would opt to get the PC (no kit), and a pick 6 pack and pick 3 combo 5.5-in flat pad combos. I think 3 each orange, white, and black should cover most anything and the black pads can be used to apply waxes, etc.

Are you sure your not confusing Surbuf with Megs MF System? Surbuf only comes with one cut (heavy) where Megs comes with a finishing pad (I believe)

Yes, why wouldn't I?

Cuz, I think you would get a better finish going from Surbuf to Orange (105) followed by Black (205)

Would you all start out with flats or CCS? I looked at the megs MF but that may be a few weeks down the road.

I prefer flats, but it's really up to you. I don't think either one does anything better or worse than the other. But thats just my opinion.

Just turn down the speed on your DA. No I am not confusing SurBuf with Megs MF system. I haven't used the Megs system, I have used the SurBuf pads.

Yes they work great at cutting but were never made for finishing.

Yes they are, did you even read the description on the AG site?

"Surbuf R Series 6.5 Inch Buffing Pads perform well with a variety of products, but many detailers have reported great success with Meguiars Mirror Glaze #105 Ultra-Cut Compound and #205 Ultra Finishing Polish. These two polishes use super-micro abrasives to remove imperfections without haze or compounding swirls. Surbuf R Series 6.5 Inch Buffing Pads keep the tiny abrasives within the MicroFingers, rather than soaking up the polishes, so the polishes are allowed to perform at their full potential.

Unlike other pad systems that offer various "cuts", Surbuf R Series 6.5 Inch Buffing Pads are suitable for any polishing or waxing application. The Surbuf pad provides a safe, nonabrasive applicator that allows the product to work as intended. If you're used to multiple pads, you'll need to experiment to find the right speed and length of time to work in a polish or cleaner. Follow the product manufacturers' instructions. Once you get the hang of it, Surbuf R Series 6.5 Inch Buffing Pads just might replace all your polishing and finishing pads!
