How to clean wheel barrel?

Is there any other way to clean the barrel of the wheel without the daytona brush? I just got back the the Honda Pilot (went in the shop December 9th) and the barrels are now clean because of the body shop. Suggestions?
 
just don't feel like placing a little order when i'll be ordering for spring detailing in a couple months
 
if you have a old mf laying around it can work well as long as you can fit your hand between the rotor and barrel.
 
With the front wheels I used to turn the wheel and wipe the barrel from behind and from the front as far as i could reach with my mitt I would clean the wheel well while I was right there. On the back I would just reach as far as I could with my wheel mitt from the front.
 
Cleaning the barrels the first time is always a pain.

But after the first initial cleaning, which the bodyshop has already done, it is a breeze to maintain. Everytime you wash dont neglect the barrels.
 
I use this Libman vent brush:

I fold it in half and it's flexible enough to maneuver it to clean my wheels. It's not a great alternative, but I think it was like $8. My wheels are coated inside & out so they aren't too tough to clean.
 
take them off and clean them by hand .... Daytona brush is cheaper (even with shipping) and faster too.
 
As a newbie can you Please tell me what the barrel of a wheel is? Thanks, Spiney

you can find brushes similar in design to the daytona wheel brush at harbor freight for pretty cheap

however, I highly recommend the daytona brush. I used to scoff at the idea of a $30 wheel brush. then I finally got one and it makes cleaning the wheels quicker, safer, and overall just more efficient. you get a better result in the barrels and that is tough to argue with

The fastest way to clean wheels, wells, and brakes, and not be screwing around with special tricks and tools is to just take those wheels off and go to town. Face down do the barrels, face up do the fronts. If they're sealed, mild soap and water is all you need, keep it simple and use what you use on the car. If have ONR or UWW+, those work gret too. A cotton or microfiber towel works great, or use whatever wash media you prefer.

Without the wheel in the way, wheel well is easy. Ditto brake calipers if you have nice ones.

If your wheels aren't sealed, clean 'em then seal them! Just make sure any cleaner you use is safe for your wheels. To the OP: It sounds like your wheels are already clean courtesy of the body shop. Seal 'em up! That way they'll stay nice and they'll clean up easy. First use what you already have. Use your longest lasting sealant or wax. If they need claying and/or polishing, do it now or do it later. Shoot, if you already have some, you can give cleaner wax a try. Whatever you use, if it has an easy wipe on/wipe off then you won't be afraid to use it when it needs it. If it's long lasting, you won't need to use it often.
 
I use 4 brushes when working with my wheels and tires. I have a tire scrubber, soft brush for the face, and two different thin brushes for cleaning barrels. I dont take the wheels off, I just clean through the spokes.
 
Get the Daytona Speed Brush or Wheel Woolies. You won't regret it!

Daytona brush works great on my wheels. I had a cheaper,older brush but it was too thick to get in some places

haha I always judge how well a car is cleaned and taken care of by the barrels ! It really makes me cringe when I see a car all cleaned up and the barrels are black with grime and brake dust.

I have a couple of the HF brushes which do work but since I bought the Daytona there is no comparison, well worth the money.
 
I have yet to try the Datona brush, however I use APC at 4:1 or stronger and found a brush similar looking at Autozone for a few bucks. Works well but wore out fast.
