Synthetic wax paste to seal my wheels?

Brembo's cause a lot of brake dust but it never occured to me to "seal" my wheels with some wax to help keep the brake dust away. I ordered Mothers FX Synwax Paste Wax to get the job done.

I'm wanting to know if this will get the job done. I plan to seal the entire wheel which will involve removing them to be thoroughly cleaned and sealed.

I use Wolf's rim shield on my cars and my customers cars . I have had it on my rims for 6 months and still going strong. You can use opti-coat on the wheels to which works great also.

If I was going to use a wax/sealant on wheels I would go with Collonite 476s. If you want the best and long lasting protection go with a coating. You can also look at Megs Brake Dust Barrier which can be pick up OTC too.

There are special Made Sealants for wheels...
I got a Subaru BRZ... SO MUCH BRAKE DUST...

First, Clean your wheels with A good wheel cleaner
2. ( Optional ) Clean wheels with either Sonax Wheel cleaner, or Iron-X

Now you can coat your wheels...
I suggest Using DP Wheel Glaze... Great product DP Wheel Glaze cleans and protects all types of wheels! Durable wheel polymer wax coating protects wheels from brake dust adhesion and corrosion.
Then You could top it With a Spray Sealant, I would recommend using BlackFire crystal Seal BLACKFIRE Crystal Seal Paint Sealant, best paint sealant, paint sealer
Just spray BlackFire on the wheels with the microfiber applicator given to you.

DP wheel glaze needs to be placed on the rims, on the wheels, I recommend buying Microfiber Gloves to apply the Glaze, Then let it dry and Remove it with a microfiber towel.

And it's really important NOT TO CLEAN THE WHEELS WITH A STRONG CLEANER AFTER YOU APPLY THE GLAZE AND SEALANT!!!
it will remove the coat ! and leave your rims UNPROTECTED!
But after applying the products on the rims, you will see that it would be SUPER easy to Clean them... even if you just rinse them with water...
But there are Safe wheel cleaners... Many of them, Find them on Autogeek.com

I just cleaned my wheels with Iron X, then Mothers wheel and tire foam cleaner, then a quick ONR cleaning.

Then Sealed w/ Menzerna Powerlock

and put her in the garage for an overnight cure


Tomorrow morning I'm applying Dodo Juice Purple HAZE Pro


a bit overkill but gonna see how it holds up :cool:
 
I usually use Opti-Seal on my wheels. Easy to apply and no buffing off.

All other sealants, including DP wheel glaze, wheel wax, CG wheel guard, etc. are literally just a normal type of wax/sealant. They make the surface slick, like a sealant, and so it reduces stuff from sticking on, but as you've noticed with your car, dirt still sticks to it and whatnot.

Opti-coat is self-cleaning to an extent, and is permanent, to the point where all you'll need is soap to get it off without any rough agitation. Wolf's works just like opti-coat in it's self-cleaning properties, but it's not permanent, which I prefer. I have like, 3 bottles of this stuff, and as stated, it lasts at least half a year. Fantastic stuff
 
FWIW... Wolf's is my next step, especially on Ze German. That said, I'm a long-time fan of Poorboy's Wheel Sealant. The durability is impressive, not only on customer cars, but even for folks like us who are on top of the frequent washing/maintenance thing. Permanent? Nope. But if you're not ready to take the leap to a coating, I can't recommend it highly enough.
 
I know you asked for a synthetic wax paste but I have to say I put opti-coat on my wheels and it works great. So easy to clean with a great shine and it's permanent. You also don't have to be an expert (which I am not) to apply because unlike paint if you apply too much you will not see streaking. That has been my experience as I opti-coated the paint on one of my cars as well as the wheels on both. Just a suggestion.

Good luck cleaning those barrels!

All the feedback is great! I also heard switching to Ceramic pads will help reduce my brake dust along with some of these ideas.
