Haven't done a lot of recent detailing but there aren't many of these left running around so I thought I'd share. Abbreviated writeup, I don't know how some of you folks find the time. Since I retired from the swirling radar scopes at Club Fed I can't figure out how I found the time to ever go to work!

Guy contacts me out of the blue and says he saw me on a few Detailing Forums. He picked up a 1987 IROC Z-28 that had a measely 27,000 miles on it, had been neglected and in storage. Wondered about getting paint spruced up. Neglected was an understatement, it was a total swirl monster! The whole car was this bad.

The budget only allowed a 1-step polish and D300/Opt MF won the test spot contest. Worked pretty well:

The finished product:

Process

Wash at stripping strength with CG Wash & Clear
OPC, numerous brushes to remove years worth of the other guy's wax from nooks, crannies and seams

IPA wipe
LSP - Opti Seal

KAIO to shine up the wheels followed by 845IW
Stoner's More Shine on the tires with a wipedown for a matte finish
KAIO on black trim and all glass
Spot treat carpets w/Folex, extract with LGM
QID on interior plastics
M34 for the final wipe

Well, let's see... roaring around the country on motorcycles in the summer, hanging around the Daytona beaches in the winter, chasin' wimmins here n there.. even catching some on occasion. Amazing how much extra time you have for fooling around when you shut off the computer :D

Nice work.....that was my first car but with gray trim instead of gold. Biggest p.o.s. car I have ever owned, but still was a cool car.

The MF/D300 combo remains very tough to beat. It's fast and finishes down incredibly well on hard paint. On soft paint a final polishing step may be required but either way it came into being as a game changer and remains so.
