Meg's 105 and Microfiber cutting pad help!

So i bought some meg's 105 because of all the positive reviews I've seen, and I have a huge project to use it on. I tried using the 105 with a megs microfiber cutting pad, but the product started caking onto the paint. And then I couldn't remove the product with a microfiber towel, it was like the product was permatently stuck to the car. Alcohol and detailing spray removed the product.

Anyone know why this happened?

What machine are you using? You might want to switch to D300 if you are using a dual action or random orbital.
 
Megs 105 is tougher to use because it dries quickly, it gums up. You can use the Megs Ultimate Compound or D300, I just used Megs MF with D300, worked fantastic. Megs Ultimate compound has longer working time, pick some up at Wal-Mart if in a time crunch
 
Either add m205 or use a detail spray to reactive the compound. This is one reason I do not use m105 anymore
 
Spray a mist of water and it will keep longer. Ease up on the amount of product used.
 
I used to use Meg's ultimate compound but it wasn't strong enough for what I'm doing, and i haven't used that much product on the pads. I try a spritz of water and let you know how it goes!
 
I found the D300 to work just as well as M105 with the MF discs, and easier to remove. You could use a quick detailer instead of water too.

However, I definitely prefer M205 to the D302.
 
You may want to work a smaller area and not over work the compound. M105 is finicky.
 
Clean your pad on the fly often when using a mf pad. A spray of water will make it last longer. Work an area 2-3 times the size of the pad at a time.

What speed are you using?

1 to spread, 6 to cut
 
Slow it down my friend! Slower speed with microfiber pad. I believe meguiars recommends 4800 rpms for cutting.

Agree on this. Even with foam, I don't run at 6 with M105. On the GG6, 3.5 is around 4600 OPM and 4 is around 5000 OPM. I run 4.5-5 with M105 and foam, so I am sure 3.5-4 would do the trick with MF. Also, I'd spread at least 2.5-3, not 1.

Slow down! You should be at max setting 4. Speed will kill the pads. There is a lot of heat that is generated when using the MF pad. Find the Meg's video with Jason Rose from Detail Fest as watch when he talks about priming the pads as well. That is a key step that is often over looked when using the pads.

Agreed on speed, and I also use a spritz or two of quick detailer on the pad each time before I put another two spots of compound on it.
