Polishing Headlights?

I understand that there is a protective layer put on headlights to prevent them from UV exposure and oxidizing. My headlights are not in bad shape, but I was thinking of polishing them with Menzerna SF4000 and a white polishing pad when I polish the entire vehicle. Will this remove much of that protective layer? Afterwards I will be applying WDGPS and Wolfgang Fuzion for protection.
 
All I've ever done is used Plastic-X (by hand) and wax on mine and they've been holding up fine
 
As with your clearcoat, that polishing will remove some minute amount of coating. However, I agree with your plan to polish and apply LSP after.
