Is it always necessary to clay/nano skin (I have the Nanoskin Fine Grade Mitt) before you wax? I just did a full detail that included claying and then applying Pinnacle Cleansing Lotion followed by Collinite 845 about a month and a half ago.

I wanted to reapply the Collinite when I wash the exterior again soon. Is it necessary to clay/nanoskin again?

The truck is always garaged.

No need to. You already used Pinnacle Cleansing Lotion. That alone preps the ride for wax. You covered all your bases. When you are finished...please show pics!!

Not sure if you misread the OP, but the detail was done a few months ago. I just want to recoat the vehicle with wax and was wondering if I needed to use the nanoskin mitt or not.

Pinnacle paint cleansing lotion and Nanoskin (clay alternative) do two different things. The Nanoskin removes the above surface contaminants. If your truck is garaged and only sees outdoors occasionally, it is probably not getting very contaminated. But this one is easy to test, get a small baggie, stick your hand in it and rub it across the paint. If it feels rough, it needs to be decontaminated. If its smooth, your fine.

The paint cleansing lotion chemically removes dirt and buildup on the paint. Hard to see unless your vehicle is light colored. Again, if it stays in the garage, its probably clean.

Speaking of 845, it lasts a LONG time, 6 months in South Florida Heat, so its probably not necessary to wax again only two months later. It wont hurt, but probably not needed.

Hope that helps.

You are correct!! I did not read that he clayed a month and 1/2 ago. Next time I should read the whole post carefully! If this is the case, then I would Nanoskin just to be safe. IMO a month and a 1/2 will collect contaminants and will need to be clayed/nanoskin.

Better safe than sorry.

:iagree: Yeah you should be good to go. I applied 476 after a full detail and then appiled a second coat 2 weeks later, no problems.
Of course, as mentioned previously, I did test the paint to makes sure no contaminates had attached themselves. I just gave her a nice bubble bath, dried, then applied. Take care.

Peace,

Darrin

when in doubt, do the baggie test. Put your hand in a ziplock back and wipe it on the car, if it sticks, you got to clay, if it's smooth, move on.
