So my wifes 2013 Kia Optima and my 2015 Mazda 3 have a factory applied coating on the side windows. This stuff lasts and lasts. The wifes car is 2+ years old and it still beads water on the side glass. Does anyone know what the OEM's use? I would love to have this stuff on my windshield and rear window.

•This is an example of "self-cleaning" glass...
as developed for automotive applications.

-It's a patented process where a thin (10-30nm)
layer of (nano)-titanium dioxide is applied to "raw"
glass by using several different deposition methods
during the auto-glass manufacturing process.

-I'll venture a guess and say that after the molten
glass has cooled to take on the OEM car manufacturers'
desired shape/size...an aftermarket application
of this Coating would be nigh unto an impossibility.

IMO:

•The reason that side windows have this
type of Coating, and windshields don't?

-Side windows, which are usually made from
tempered glass, can support this technology.
-Windshields, which are made from laminated glass,
currently cannot support this technology.

However:
This technology is ever evolving and
re-inventing itself...TiO2 Coated OEM
windshields may soon come to pass.
