GG6 3" backing plate functionality

New to machine polishing here. I just ordered my first DA and I ordered the 5" and 3.5" backing plates/pads - but I also inadvertently ordered some 3" pads.

Question: should I just order a 3" backing plate to go with the pads? Then I'd have all 3 sizes at my disposal.

Or do I need to forget about using 3" pads on the GG6? Someone told me 3" pads can be "tippy" on that machine. Thanks.
 
I'd get the 3" backing plate as well. I had both the 3" and the 3.5" plates and used them with the LC CCS pads as well as the GG 3" pads. After I got my Rupes 15, I converted the GG6 to a GG3 (dedicated) and it worked great. I felt like I had to pay more attention to stabilizing it, but with care, it worked well.

I recently sold my GG6 since I picked up a Rupes Mini. Looking forward to putting that to use.
