Hey guys, I have a client with a Mercedes Benz ml SUV. They want a wash, clay, and wax. However what's the best way to reach the roof? Do you use step stools? Ladders?

Sounds like you've answerd your own question :)

Get you some pipe insulation for the handles of the step ladders.

Also every Black Friday Home Depot seems to have work platforms at a good deal.

When I do my dad's Avalanche I either stand on the side rails or I use a ladder if I'm going to be up there for more than a few seconds

Hey man,

I have a foldable step from Harbor Freight I carry around. Being over 6 ft tall, its all I normally need. For lifted trucks and such, i have a foldable step ladder ill bring. Hope this helps.

As for the process, if you are rinseless; I recommend completing the roof all together before moving to the other panels. It will save you steps and time if going up and down ladder.

I bought a work plank from Amazon.
It's about 4' long and 19" tall. Aluminum, easy to set up and break down. I bought it when I had to do a LandRover.
I'm 5'1 and it worked great for me :dblthumb2:

Werner foldable work platform at Lowe's or home depot.. 40 bucks

I love this forum! Wow, how have I never seen this. That thing would be perfect for so many applications. Detailing, painting, love seat (Lambeau Field style). Even just detailing full sized suv's the upper areas on the side panels are difficult for me at 6'0". Work well for an improvised work bench/rest on spot polishing.

Thanks for sharing

Serious question. At 5'1" when polishing, how do you reach the center of roofs on large trucks/SUV's? Really tall step ladder? I sometimes struggle just washing a Tahoe's windshield at 6'0" tall.

Came here to say this.
I got the Werner platform for 20 bucks on black Friday at Home Depot.

open doors then stand on sills, then when you get to the back stand on rear tires.

I was thinking of that. But don't want to accidentally lose my balance and scratch the car!

I purchased a Werner 6' scaffold from Home Depot. It will allow you to do the entire roof with just one move for each side. The height is also adjustable. I also have the work bench 19" aluminum step for the regular SUV sizes. The 6' tall scaffold is mostly used on any job where the 19" step leaves me out of reach or stepping on and off to much.
