I have to start on a detail on a 1987 Buick GNX tomorrow night and I can't remember when GM started to use clear coat on their paint. Anyone done an older GM vehicle lately and any tips appreciated.

Hello it's a lacquer paint. My ex car in my sig pic was an all original garage queen. That's the original paint lots of wet sanding and buffing to bring that shine.

GM cars IN GENERAL started with CC in about 1988 ish depending on the vehicle model. By 1992 most every GM car had it and they started on the trucks.

Thanks, I have a 3401 as well but I wanted to be super careful with the factory paint so I used my pc. Also I've got the factory 5.5" backing plate for the flex so I'm stuck using lc hybrid 6.5" hybrid pads. I like the smaller pads & soon will get a 4" backing plate.
