Makita rotary

So I'm picking up a makita rotary, are there certain pads and plates that make it easier to learn on?

Not to state what may be obvious, but smaller and less aggressive=easier. 205 or another polish on a 6.5 or 7" polishing pad (or even 4") will be much easier to control than 105 or the like on a 8.5" cutting pad. After you learn the finesse required while using a rotary, then you can get more aggressive.

I use 5.5" pads on the makita, super easy to control

I'm not sure if makita makes a unit that does not have the soft start feature but make sure the one you pick up has it.
