Silicone removal.

Hi all,

just wondering how to remove the silicone residue of the roof.

Silicone was used to hold the roof diffuser.

Tried WD40, but it doesn't seem to help.

Thank for your suggestions.

Can you get a grip on the dots with your fingers?

Wondering if a hair dryer or heat gun might help loosen the grip and let you peel it off

I remember seeing plastic "razor blades" that are meant to be used for GENTLY scraping stuff off

I wonder if it is actually silicone and instead more likely is a polyurethane adhesive???

I have used a razor (plastic) blade, its hard to remove, took me over 1hr for 2 dots only .. heavy grip. :laughing:

Its definitely a (bathroom) silicone, as I put it there

Will try a hair drier, it may loose the grip !

Did you type this into Google? I get several different ways you can get rid of it when I do that.

On paint I would marinate it with an artists paintbrush in straight 91% isopropyl alcohol After I got off the majority of it with my fingernail , and rubbing/rolling it with my finger

Yes I tried Google, vinegar and wd40 are the recommendations, both not effective as much.

Will try 91% isopropyl when I came from work.

None of them instantly dissolv silicone, it’s a stubborn product no matter what you use.

I am not saying this is true, just wanted to throw it out there

Some interweb paint "experts" claim that high isopropyl concentrations will soften paint which is one of the reasons these "experts" don't recommend home brew IPA solutions for panel wipe and prep

I am blanking on just who I read saying this but it was someone with a reputation and name in paint correction

Once again, not saying its true, just saying...

Hi guys, the OP here.

Nothing suggested really worked, the silicone was so stubborn and glued to the paint.

So the answer is elbow grease and some serious time working with plastic scraper, and some compounding when all was removed.

Ta-da !

Oh yes, plenty of marring, but the Ultimate Compound took good care of it.
