Hello from KC! I've been lurking for years, but never bothered to sign up. Thanks for all the great info!
Anyhow, I just purchased my first new car, and I want to keep her in pristine condition. I've been DIY detailing for years, but I've only just started to REALLY get into correction and protection in the past 2-years.
My current arsenal includes...
Hazard Fraught DA with a high-temp grease swap and a cord mod
A few Hazard Fraught pads (decent enough for light stuff)
Meguiars microfiber DMC5 cutting pads
Meguiars microfiber DMF5 finishing pads
Couple dozen Chemical Guys microfiber towels
Griot's Garage Microfiber cleaner
Iron-X Spray
Collinite 845 (loooove this stuff)
Poorboy's Natural Look (smells soooo good)
Stoner's Invisible Glass (been using this for years, love it)
Griot's Garage Leather cleaner
Meguiars Gold Class Quick Wax (for in-between touch-ups)
Tons of Meguiars Quick Detailer
Couple of old cans of polish/compound/wax
Old car - 2008 Saab 9-3 Aero - Pepper Green Metallic
My second daughter was born in March, and I thought it would be a good time to tackle a full polish/wax while mom/baby slept. I got about 80% of the way through the car (hood, roof, trunk, driver's side, and trunk), when I ran out of energy, and my wife ran out of patience. I took it to a guy I know who owns Extreme Detail here in KC, and he finished it to perfection. He threw a couple coats of Opti Pro+ on there and, well ...
New Car - 2016 Chevy SS - Heron White
Two weeks ago, 2-bucket washed the car, stripped all protectants (if any) from it, gave it a full wipe-down with alcohol to remove any leftover wrap adhesive, Iron-X'd it, claybarred, and then applied 2-coats of Collinite 845. While doing so, I discovered a handful of paint defects that are going to drive me nuts. One was already corrected by the dealer, and the others I'll just have to correct when I get time.
She looks pretty good from 5-10 feet, but up close I spot the swirls and tell-tale signs of a porter with a dirty rag. I liked the Meguiars microfiber pads well enough, but holy crap those load up SO fast. I'm going to invest in some good pads and a backing plate, then go to town correcting the swirls. I might throw on a sealant, and then I'll probably throw another coat or two of Collinite 845 on it.
First up, though, is some 15% tint and a gloss black wrap for the roof.
