I bought Meg's metal polish yesterday because it was on sale. I was going to properly polish the exhaust tips in spring, but I might as well do it now.

I don't have proper tools though... I don't have steel wool, polishing soap, polishing pad, etc. I just have a couple of oz of Iron X, microfiber towels, netted sponge and sponge pads.

I was wondering if I could just clean the exhaust tips with Iron X, and then apply metal polish with either microfiber towels, netted sponge or sponge pad. Would this shine those exhaust tips?

Thanks in advance

Are they brushed stainless or chrome?

A microfiber will work, but if it’s been a while since they’ve been cleaned you may not be able to get the inners totally clean unless you use some steel wool. Stop by the auto parts store and pick up a pack, it only costs a couple of bucks. And make sure you get 00 and not 0000, because that fine grade is too weak, especially for that task.

They are chrome, I think... And this is the first time I'm polishing the tips ever since my car got delivered 7.5 years ago. I did clean the tips with wheel cleaner, car soap or iron X time to time though...

I'll just try scrubbing the tips with microfiber towel and metal polish

I prefer terry cloth to micro to polish exhaust... Cotton has more of a "bite".

Bingo on that, Ron. I can get my chrome tips on the Ram clean at least twice as fast using terry over MF.

OP here... Cleaned the exhaust tips with Iron X. Dried it, and then applied Meg's metal polish with terry cotton towel. Here is the result:

So, is this good...? I don't know if there is any difference... lol. This is the first time I polished the tips ever since I got my brand new car delivered 7.5 years ago.
