When I clean auto carpet I like to remove the plastic covers and moldings so I can get ALL the carpet clean. I hate that area next to the hood release and piece you step on getting in and out of the vehicle. I think it looks bad if all the carpet is cleaned except a little line next to the plastic.

This also enables you to clean the seals and surrounding area more effectively (in case there was a beverage spilled that may have odor).

Any tips you would like to share?

Portable steam cleaner works well for me in those areas.

Prior to my steam cleaner I was never 100% satisfied with my carpet cleaning ability. Now for the tight areas I use 20:1 APC+ and agitate with steam and a tiny, focused nozzle/brush. Then extract and repeat if necessary.

I'm always nervous I will break something if I start tearing apart the trim pieces...

I agree that it would do a better job than extractor in those areas but it is still best to remove the moldings. Then you can get all the gravel and other junk that is underneath.

I am thinking of getting a vapor cleaner.

Generally I clean my carpet through vinegar cleaner to remove the stain and dirt or baking soda is also a good option for cleaning the carpet.

I too usually use vinegar for cleaning carpet but if the carpet get too bad then go for some of the best carpet cleaners near by.

Hey guys, need some advices here regarding carpets.

I just started detailing and am learning like crazy every day. I have not started doing carpet shampoos yet but I will do that either tomorrow or the day after.

Today I practice doing basic interior cleaning of all surfaces and vacuuming. Under the seats was salt deposits and in the front was a piece of chewing gum stuck to the carpet and the plastic molding.

I did not manage to do anything about the salt, what do you guys use for that? The gum I managed to remove after working on it for a while with my portable steam bottle.

Here is the equipment I currently own:

Portable vacuum cleaner (2 HP)
Portable carpet cleaner machine : Bisell Little Green Machine
Portable steam bottle

I intend to do shampoos only with my deluxe detail. Right now it takes me 3 hours to wash the exterior and clean the interior without doing the shampoo. I think it is still too long but I just started so I am still slow.

If I was to do the seats, how long before they get dry if I use the carpet cleaner machine? I read those things don't do such a good job. Should I steam the seat and clean with APC instead or does the machine actually do a good job? What do you guys do?
