Is it too cold to apply Pinnacle Black Label...

I live in the Northeast. My garage isn't heated although I do have a space heater that will...well...do very little to warm up the whole area. Anyway, the temps are currently in the 30s-40s outside and it's probably a little warmer inside the insulated garage (which is attached to my home, so it does get some warmth from the inside walls). I just bought a new car and was hoping to apply the PBL paint and glass sealants today but I'm not sure if the cold will impact the adhesive quality of the sealant or otherwise work improperly because of the cold temperature.

Any thought? Thanks in advance for any suggestions and have a happy New Year!

Hi Eric,

Have you already done a prep wash and clayed the paint to prep for the coating? You'd be very surprised at the amount of comtaminents on the paint on your new car! You want to be sure that the surface is completely clear of contaminants and any other waxes or sealants before you apply a new coating as this will maximize the durability and protection of the coating.

If you have already prepped, my advice would be to set up your heater and let it work for a few hours in the garage before you apply the coating. Temperature wise, you should fine. :-)
 
Yep, just finished washing and claying it when it occurred to me that I didn't know if it was too cold to actually apply the sealant! lol The surface was in pretty good shape although I did remove some contaminants I picked up on the ride home.

Ok, well I'd say you should be good to go! Run that heater in the garage for a few to take the chill out of the air and get to coating! Lol! And don't forget to post pictures of your work afterwards! Congrats on the new car. What kind of car did you get?
 
I just did my truck over Christmas here in NE Ohio. I washed it, polished it with Menz 2500 and did BL coating on her. My garage is heated but I only ran the heater during brief stints during application. I then let the truck sit for a few days to make up for not having 60+ degree for 12 hours. Got hammered the following week with snow. This weekend it was 50 out so I hosed it off, awesome beading, and the car looks washed after just hosing off.

It's a 2014 CLA45 AMG...Jupiter Red. :)

Thanks guys. I'm really happy with how she turned out. I'm working on the polish and sealant right now. :)

And, here's one of the drivers' seat but it doesn't do the seat justice. There's an upgraded Recaro seat available that is absolutely beautiful (these aren't the Recaros) but, thankfully, I had a chance to sit in them beforehand. They were very uncomfortable...and I'm used to firm performance oriented seats. The seat bottoms were like cement blocks.

Anyway, these seats are black leather with red stitching and a red "cut" background. The picture almost makes them look like fabric and greyish though and they're not.

I'll take some better pictures with a real camera once the car is detailed and all cleaned up to my liking. :)

I am currently going back and forth deciding on this same car of a
lexus gs 350 fsport.

Quite different cars The 30 year old in me wants the cla

but the size is keeping me from pulling the trigger. The otherside of me loves the new lexus Gs fsport. For both the size and the fact that its an acutal midsize sport sedan. Don't have Audi S7 $$ or I wouldv'e already pulled the trigger.

Waiting for the cla45 amg to show up at the dealer next week. Coming in w/ Recaro seats.. Thanks for the heads up about the rock hard bottom I will have to pay attention to it. Hopefully the test drive will be my deciding factor.


Can't wait to see more pics of the Jupiter Red Detailed. :dblthumb2:
 
Temperature wise you should be just fine inside applying the sealant. If you were applying PBL coating, well you definitely want the temps to be in the 60s...Wow that's a nice ride :xyxthumbs:
 
So it is, or is not ok to apply coating in a chilled garage? I'm in Louisville and the temp will be about 40 tomorrow. I'll put a space heater in the insulated garage but that won't make a huge dent in surface or air temps. I have a week old Altima that needs some protection. (horizontal surfaces will be clayed prior to any application, vertical panels are surprisingly good) Or am I better off just applying a sealant like Meg's ULW or M21 until spring time? DP paint coating to be specific...
 
How long can you let it sit? Coat it, turn the heat on for a while let it sit a day or two, will be fine. It was snowing when I did my truck, garage is barely insulated and the kids do a damn fine job leaving garage open and mine looks great.

If you're applying PBL Diamond Paint Coating, preferred temp is in the 60s, I double checked with Nick@Autogeek before applying PBL to my mustang....temps when I applied was right at 60
 
Andre at PBMG confirmed the same. Advised against applying the DP coating in lower (40° in my case) temps. Even said the sealants could give me fits. I may have to put it in the garage with multiple space heaters to get any protection on it sounds like...

FYI...
Posibble snow storm coming Thursday into Friday. The lows in my neck of the woods on Thursday and Friday night will be in the single digits.

Yea, I heard we could get a pretty nasty nor'easter if both storm converge. Where in NE are you? I'm in RI.
 
Since most people in this thread are in "wintery states" long long can we expect the PBL coating to last? I know there are a million factors, but generally speaking? thanks
 
I'm anticipating it making through the winter, no more. Weekly washing, salt, grime and Ohio weather is going to kill it.
