Who likes people touching their car???

I make my wife touch the car with a plastic baggy on her hand so she gets what I've been striving for while I was outside. She still doesn't get it.

I only do that to see if it's time to clay and decontaminate.
I wouldn't have her do that too often... the bag can marr the paint.

I actually do not park a mile away from everyone....

When I bought my VERY first new car I used to park way away from everyone... then about 2 weeks after I had my new car I came out of work and someone had keyed down the entire one side of it. Lesson learned.

So now it's park in a spot not right next to anyone, but still in with other cars. Never next to giant SUVs or minivans... these scream children to me. If I can, I find the end spot, so I can be as far over as possible from the other car. And end spots with as much curb around them are prime spots for me.

Ahhh... the ONLY benefit of being disabled. ;)
(Now if I could only stop the constant, never ending, not able to sleep till 4:00am pain that goes with it.)

My husband, still, on occasion closes the door by grabbing the corner..... ###? The handle is right there!
Do you open a glass door at home by the glass? No! You use the handle!

Grabbing the HANDLE? What's wrong with you!?!?
I'll push the glass with my shoulder just to keep from touching anything with my skin! Or as Dogfather says, use the rubber trim. Really like that rubber trim.

And the trunk.... OMG! Nowhere to close it. I reach up and get two fingers on the INFINITI emblem to get it started downwards then jump outta' the way.

I close my door with black plastic and rubber trim at the base of the window. If I had black plastic or chrome handles I would use them but mine are painted.

And speaking of detailing supplies. I keep a whole host of QD, Spray Wax, ONR, bottled water, toilet paper ;), and a dozen different towels in my trunk, along with one of those ultra lightweight (disposable) microfiber duster thingy's.

I have threatened deadly force against family members, (especially the kids) since long before they started driving that if they EVER come home with dried bird$hit on their vehicle(s). They too have several towels and QD, and WATER in all their cars. There have been known to be flash fire drills, surprise inspections, and corporal punishment for those that have been found to be in non compliance.

My wife used to get upset when after going into a place of business or doctors office etc. that when we got back to the car I have to go over it with the duster and/or QD and big fat towels BEFORE I'll even move out of the parking space.

What makes it even better? Is if someone is waiting for my SPOT! :buffing:
Circle around.... circle around.... be done in 5 minutes.

Conversely, IMHO;
The "Touchers" behavior appears to be teetering on the edge of OCD.

I'm fully aware that I am the one with OCD, not the touchers lol. I'm jk, actually that's an interesting point. Maybe we all have it. We're just considerate people with OCD while the touchers are not :)

You're doing it right! But how do you go about opening the door?
I just make sure I only touch the back of the handle and try not to graze the door panel behind it, but I used to be even more anal about it. One day a guy stopped me at the gas station to tell me I had a towel sitting on my car. Oh I knew. I left a small MF sitting on the wiper cowl, so I could use it to open the door when I came back out.

I keep some QD and MFs in a small tote in my trunk, so I understand. Not the threats to your families lives though, that's just... well let's just say I hope you're joking!

If everyone respected everyone else and their property, then there wouldn't be an issue and I'd park in the first spot.

But most people don't seem to care or are wrapped up in their own lives. They don't care if they themselves or their kid throws a door open and hits the car next to them. Maybe they do care, and it was an accident... it happens.

This is why I park in "strategic" spots. They are usually not convenient, and not usually close to the door. I'm just trying to take carelessness or human error out of the equation. You can't change someone else's behavior... only your own.

My husband used to get annoyed at me for taking too long to find "the right spot". Now he does it. HA!

I'm in a carpool at work, and I get made fun of for looking for "strategic spots" (love that term btw, ty). But my last car got door dinged, and I'm not about to let that happen to my baby. A lot of the time, I'll drop the other guys off then go look for a suitable spot because I understand if they need to get in quickly or don't want to walk super far because of my obsession.
You're completely on point, if we just respected each other, but a lot of people don't. You have insurance, so there is no reason not to at least leave a note. And hey if you don't want your premium to go up, then pay out of pocket. Most of the time the paint is not harmed; I've been to Dent Devil, and they're not that expensive.

I still like to park far away, but if there is a spot closer that doesn't have any red flags ("scream children" lol), I'll take it. Usually I prefer it at least has a curb or no parking area on one side.

I had a similar experience. I bought my car while working at my previous job. It's my first new car, and it is my baby. So of course I parked away from everyone. I did take 2 spots but not near prime parking. I did it because some people have the idea that it's cool to park next to the muscle car. Unfortunately I have also found that since it's not a big car, if I take 2 spots and I park straight, it looks like I just failed at staying in the lines. And for many people this is not a deterrent from parking in a spot. Either way, I stopped doing this because... [/INDENT]
This one guy just didn't like how I parked, so he put his car at an angle parallel to mine, about 4 inches away. I was ready to let it go until I saw a scuff on my mirror, so I called my office to see if it was someone there. It wasn't, so I called the cops so I could get the driver's insurance info. Well I guess someone told him the police were there because he came down and looked scared ish-less! What was really funny is the cop was really nice to me, then went into bad cop mode on this guy lol.

PS, sorry to type SO much, but this thread is like therapy. Thanks DetailKitty!

I was leaving work the other night and one of my technicians was bringing home all these big boxes full of junk. I watched her sit them on a new Jeep's hood that just happened to be parked next to her. About 3 big dirty cardboard boxes full of junk sat on some poor strangers car hood.

People are dumb, they do not think.

I was sitting in my car one day last summer waiting for my misses to get out of the nail salon. Some lady walked out, and was gonna squeeze between my car and another. Her coat with metal belt brackets hanging out hit the other car at least 3 times as the wind was blowing. She did not care one bit..Ms. Beautiful i guess...

YOU TOCHA MY CAR I BREAKA YOU FACE!!!

Unless you want to help in the polishing and you have experience.:buffing:

You didn't say anything??

I've told people they are inconsiderate and cost someone 200 because they thought it was funny to write clean me in the dirt on someones car.. said that was disrespectful and was going to leave a note on their car with your license number.. they left some money under the wipers, LOL

Hee hee hee... I'm so glad you all seem to share my OCDness :dblthumb2:

I admit I've done this.

I have never been a "car" guy before, but I never touch or lean on other people's vehicles. I can't stand it when someone does that to mine. Especially with jeans with metal rivets on the pockets, etc. It's like, are you doing?

My wife is one of those people that put her purse, garbage, boxes of crap, etc on her roof or hood when she is getting extra stuff into/out of the car. For this reason alone she will never borrow my car.

Add to it her stupid snot rags all wadded up into the door handle on the passenger side. I mean, come on...

I would say that if they are touching it because it seems really slick and they just wanted to verify that or if I have asked them to touch it, then I don't mind, but as your initial post stated, I think this guy was just an A~~!!

HUMP

Same here diesel, theres a time and place for it. Especially after a nice coat of collinite... dude touch that thing then pay me to make yours like this.

Exactly Griever, but don't even think about it unless I ask you to!!

Words to live by.

It's as if you read my mind.....:props:

My mother loves closing doors by way of pushing on glass.

"Mom, please don't do that."

"Oh, sorry about that!"

And she does it every single time I give her a lift.

Oh, mom.... :o
