Review: DUB Wheel Cleaner

This can happen with any wheel cleaner.

True, but I haven't experienced that with the conventional wheel cleaners I've used for years now. Although, if the wheel/rotor was hot, it's certainly possible (my wheels/rotors were cool to the touch). As you know, if used correctly, most modern wheel cleaners are fairly benign. Older, really strong formulas...yea I remember them having a greater potential for discoloring the finish. It could have been that this particular rotor-hat paint didn't react well to the DUB formula, but it happened none the less. Otherwise, I saw no other damage. Still, it turned me off a little.

Is that with agitation or not? I have never seen any wheel cleaner work like that without a brush assist.

Yes, of course, it is with using a wheel brush, but it cleaned up pretty easily.

Yep, prefect for wheels like that!

If anyone can find one that can clean really bad wheels up without scrubbing, please let us know!

I'm down on the Dragon right now and I used the DUB yesterday and without rubbing even it knocked almost all of it out and it was caked on good!

Sorry, I wish I had taken pics😋

Cool, but we know how often that your car gets cleaned. ;)
Any sealant/coating on those?

leaving streaks in general, especially on brake pad and rotor is a big issue with this cleaner. My wheels were cool to touch, I haven't driven the car for hours, and in the garage, I used this cleaner. It dried on the wheels in 2 minutes (until I finish other wheels, the first one was dried), and the brake rotor (ring), pad and all inside parts were yellow-dried cleaner on them. Dried wheels were fixed with car soap-wheel brush but I couldn't get it out of the rotor, it just stayed there until I drove the car and brake pad friction took care of it.
I'll never buy this again. I'm going back to Eagle One after some research. I was leaning into Sonax (too expensive), Chemical Guys Diablo (reviews say not very strong), and Griot garage (not as convenient as Eagle One). Open to suggestions but I've been happy with Eagle One A2Z.

So from reading this you applied it to all wheels at once and then went to work on one wheel at a time?

Great write up and comparison review.

My own experience with DUB wheel cleaner is not fantastic.
I agree that it does a very good job at cleaning wheels.
I do not find it does a better job than about any product out there.

I also cannot stand the smell of DUB wheel cleaner.
The coloration is messy and leaves colored residue on the shop floor as well as all over your hands.
My bottle had a poor quality sprayer and the product continuously leaked all over the place.

For those who are happy with Dub wheel cleaner, by all means continue to use it.
It just was not something that impressed me.

Used some DUB this evening to clean some wheels. Also used my old stand-by...Mothers All Wheel and Tire Cleaner.

I do like the fact that DUB can be used on paint, but isn't as strong or effective as Iron-X, so don't expect it to be.

That said, DUB has the same horrific smell as Iron-X, dries much to soon for it to turn purple as fast as I think it should (even on neglected wheels that should show bleeding instantly) and is a bit runny for my liking.

The two wheels I cleaned this evening once rinsed and dried showed the same staining of the coated aluminum, as if it stripped the clear off of them. I had this same thing happen to another car with clear coated aluminum wheels and that too was a Meguiar's wheel cleaner...Meguiar's All Wheel Cleaner. That's twice now that a Meguiar's cleaner has "burned" me.

Bottom line is...

Mothers AWTC is still my top pick. Cleans wheels of iron deposits as good as Iron-x, cleans the black walls as well as white walls/lettering as good as Westley's white wall and tire cleaner without all the smell. Mothers and Westley's are still at the top of my list and I haven't used Westley's since I started using Mothers...so that should tell you something.

That is correct. All videos I watched say let it sit for 1-2 minutes, which is the time I spend spraying it to other wheels. And then I use the Daytona brush again on each of them quickly. Soapy water and a little agitation helps with 'not drying".
After that, I spend more time on each wheel, with my smaller brushes and wash mitt.
Do you think that's a mistake and I should do from start to finish each wheel one at a time?

Use it on one wheel at a time. Just like any other wheel cleaner.

Let's all keep our eyes open when this goes on sale again. Winter is the time when you need a good product like this to keep your salt crusted wheels clean and/or to stock up for the upcoming spring/summer season!

Bought some and tried it out last weekend.

As soon as I started applying it, the product just leaked about of the sprayer. Also, let the product dwell on the wheels for a couple minutes and did not change in color at all. Still cleaned the wheels well and everything is surely is cheaper than Sonax.

Could have been worse I guess. Im the MAN

Depends on how much dust your brakes put out. Example, dub wheel cleaner will not change color on my honda pilot, but as soon as I spray it on my focus st's wheels it turns purple. The focus has metallic brake pads that are high dusting and the pilots must have ceramics that put out almost zero dust.

Sounds like a decent product, definitely not for detailers to expensive I particularly don't like the purple thing looks damaging. If I'm gonna spray a wheel cleaner or acidic based I wanna be able to see what's going on .and I definitely will not manual clean a wheel to much time.A good pressure washer good effective commercial detailing products make detailers life easier.

Always one wheel at a time and cool and make sure you rinse throughly in the lugs the cleaner gets trapped in there ,then you take off and now you have a burnt wheel.First thing I do when I start spraying any cleaner on a wheel or car is making sure my pressure washer is operating with no problems .

use apc to remove the soiled dirt rinse, then apply acidic wheel cleaner with pressure washer and you will never have to bend down to agitate.:xyxthumbs::xyxthumbs:
