FLEX Announcement for SEMA - Can You Guess What it is?

Thanks for the update, Mike. Do you know if Bob likes any of the name suggestions offered in this thread so far?

Have to get Nick to chime in on this one... that topic didn't come up when we talked...

In our conversation I just referred to it as the prototype. The one I have was hand-built as in it's not production unit. That's why when you see pictures of it the colors are not correct and the production units will be uniform and consistent with normal Flex branding.

Thanks, Mike!

So Nick my man... how about an update? Does Bob like any of the names? Or do we need to make more suggestions?

Monday before SEMA will be the 3rd

You guys are going to love this machine!

Great ideas here and on Flex's part as well! I was just about to order a FLEX, and wished it had the ability to adapt down to 3" pads... so a micro flex polisher that's forced DA would be amazing.

Here's my 2 cents for a product branding:
Flex could stick with their current numbering scheme, which admittedly, was a bit confusing for me when searching around for a polisher. There were some good ideas here for that.

Alternatively, they can choose to start rebranding by using a naming scheme that drops most of the numbers, and moves to unique, easy to remember phrases.

My bet, is that a branding switch will help to expand their sales in the prosumer market, as average people will hear about a product via word of mouth, and instantly remember the name.

As for the actual name, it really all depends on what the product is-

Names that would work for both a new full sized or micro polisher should emphasize its paint-safe, easy to use, completely unique mode of operation... that yields superior, professional results:

Plays on words like-
ReFLEX (good because it's probably a variation of the older FLEX XC 3401 VRG... reinventing the FLEX polisher)
You could add a "ion" to the end of that to get ReFLEXion, but it might be a bit cheesy.

or simple names that make you think of spinning, plus revolutionizing the finish care market-
FLEX Revolution (easy to add a V1, V2, etc. for product iterations)

or more simple names like:
FLEX Force (makes you think of bending and flexing things)

Even ones that emphasize professional results:
FLEX ProShine
FLEX ProCut

Still needs work, but you could go down the road of muscle, or power... like ProPower, or FLEXion

If it's a miniature polisher, then perhaps names that emphasize its versatility (think FLEXibility), or basically its ability to reach any panel on a car with precision, and still deliver superior results with ease would be best:

My personal favorite: "360"
This implies that the polisher works around the whole car, and it carries on the tradition of using numbers, but in a way that's familiar to consumers.

It works as a Standalone- FLEX 360
Also, you could use it as a suffix-FLEX Revolution 360

or other adaptable words-

FLEX Conform
FLEX ProConform

maybe something along the lines of Adapt-A-FLEX (but as is, it's just too cheesy)

Perhaps something that emphasizes its small size:
FLEX Nook

MicroFLEX (or even µFLEX, but that may confuse some)
FLEX MicroShine
FLEX MicroCut
FLEX MicroTorque
... or µTorque

And of course, the precision of German engineering, and of reaching tight spots:
FLEX PrecisionPro
FLEX SpotShine

PrecisionFLEX

and of course, I've got to +1 FLEXzilla :xyxthumbs:
That's just too good to pass up.

Z Germans like regimented numbers, not marketing driven names

Look to the Menzerna line as an example of how number systems take over anyway. When is the last time you heard someone say Menzerna Fast Gloss 400? It's FG400

I don't think they care how confusing it is to anyone

Also, remember that Flex products are sold worldwide and some names in English do not translate well into German

If I'm not mistaken, this is for FLEX USA marketing, not the worldwide firm. Companies name the same product differently all the time in different countries.

Yes, I agree, the Germans have a tradition of using numbers in product names... just look at pretty much every German auto make.

However, Americans will appreciate a solid, easy to remember catchphrase. Also, it might actually translate well into German... you never know.

Makes me think that the 360 idea really is a good way to go. It should work well for either market.

Anyways, here's some more ideas-

Perhaps something that emphasizes its ability to get places, in addition to Nook:
FLEX Nook
FLEX Niche
FLEX Edge
FLEX Span
FLEX Reach
FLEX Fringe
FLEX Unlimited

Finally, another catchy polisher name (at the risk of rhyming with BowFLEX)-

The GoFLEX

You could get Chuck Norris to endorse it!

Nope this is for more than just the US Market :props:

Then in that case I say that my original post will probably be my first and final offering. It is true to German and can be extrapolated in english, french, and many more languages. I rest my head on

If you haven't picked one yet my suggestion would be along these lines:

German for word little brother : Brunderlein

So something like Flex B 2401 VRG

This is getting exciting!

And... everyone attending our Thursday Night Project the week after SEMA will be the first to get their hands on this new tool and try it themselves.

Then... everyone attending our January Detailing Boot Camp Class will be the first in the nation to use this new tool.

Dang it Mike, Can't you just relocated to Louisiana or something? :buffing:

Dud? You got to be kidding. The only polisher's that cut as well weighted 15+ pounds not to long ago. This new mini is perfect for us guy's that know how to use a rotary properly. We would have FLIPPED in the 70' & '80's for a Godsend like this.

maybe a small forced rotation DA will come out in the near future, flex 3401's little brother...

I know they introduced the PE-8 but will Flex still have a giveaway even if they did not pick one of our suggestions?

I would love to REVIEW this bad for them and AG!
