New wheels need coating!

I haven't tried that maybe I should the coating must have cured in the towel since I usually don't wash them until the next day

That's exactly what happened, the silica crystals hardened

I bought a ten pack of 16" suedes at the end of last detailing season with the intention of cutting them up precisely like that. Do the cut edges lint any?

very very little, they won't get in the way when using the block

What's in the kit is not enough if you're OCD like me imho...

May I suggest getting a 10 pack of 16x16 MF Suedes, take one of them and cut it up into 8x8 and 4x4s. Based on the design of your new wheels the applicator will work fine for most of the flat surfaces. You'll end up applying using just the 4x4 suede for the nooks and crannies. Then when it's time to buff off, it will be a lot easier with the 8x8 suede...

Thanks for the tip. I will look into that.

I bought a pack of the 8x8 MF Suede Applicators, simply quartered what I needed for the wheels, and did not use the foam block. Things went a lot quicker that way. Simply folded it for the larger areas, dabbing the product on, then apply.

You should be wearing a nitrile glove with CQuartz, at least on the one hand that you're applying with.

No, they don't really shed, you might see a little piece come off but it will not play havoc with the coating, like it's going to get somehow "stuck" into the coating, CQuartz doesn't turn to glue as you apply it. Then come back for the final wipe. I used a Carpro Boa Towel, they're ultra soft and plush. Any decent MF Towel works just fine for the final wipe.

I used one little 4x4 MF Suede per wheel. First the outside, then the less critical barrel. Then chucked. Grab a fresh one, start on the next wheel.

I did all 4 wheels in air conditioned comfort in the living room (it was last july, why sweat!?), placing each wheel on a large bath towel.

Getting my summer rims refinished this week (lips machined, faces/spokes and barrels stripped and cleared) with front tires swapping sides and the nearly-bald rears replaced. I'll let the clear coat cure for a few weeks before coating; winter's been so harsh I have no plans to install the rims before mid-April when the salt is off the asphalt and the road crews have had a chance to catch up with the potholes. Only the barrels will need blocks, the spokes are narrow with curves. Good to know I have enough suedes!

Oh yeah guys, don't forget to coat the barrels - makes it stupid easy to clean!

this is huge imo

clean barrels make a major difference for a detail. yep, the right coating can make that job so much easier down the line. swear by it.

I have 30ml of CQuartz on the way and I don't want to store it. That should cover 4 wheels, including barrels.

edit: I have Tuf Shine coming for the tires as well.

Easily - 2 coats on the face and 1 thick coat for the barrels...

Cquartz or CQ UK?

Maybe I'll swim against the current and do C1/EXOv2 on mine... ;)

What you guys think about coating wheel that got matte finish on them? Will turn them to gloss side?

You may find that you'll have some left over from the 30ml bottle. One can then maybe use the remainder a while later on some areas of the vehicle? Or apply 2 coats to the wheels.

Careful how you re-cap a CQuartz Bottle. tighten just till snug, don't overtighten, the plastic Caps can crack-separate if you overdo it. Had this happen with a used up bottle of DLX, there were maybe only a few drops left, so no great loss.

I am considering coating the roof of my truck if I have enough left. I sure do hate to clean, polish, and wax my roof! Thanks for the hint regarding the bottle.:xyxthumbs:

Tonight I was able to get one of the wheels coated with CQuartz UK. I found application to be rather "easy" albeit tedious. Mostly due to the wheel design. One thing I struggled with was finding the proper light! I tried 3 different head lamps which I use for all kinds of detailing projects. I just don't understand why manufacturers can't put some additive, that enables us, the end user to actually SEE the product better. I did eventually find a decent angle but like I said it was a bit aggravating. It could also be a bit of macular degeneration, I do have a birthday approaching.........;)

At this rate I will have two coats on all 4 wheels by next Wednesday. lol
