Best Carnauba for the price?

I have been looking at Collinite No. 476 and in reading the many reviews it appears to have great protection and shine/depth for the $.
I am planning on Using Wolfgang sealant so.....
1) Is it worth my time to apply a top coat of carnauba or should I just do a second cote of WG sealant?( Or both)

2) It states that WG sealant takes upwards of 12 hours to cure, does this mean I need to wait that long before a second coat?

3) I picked up Poorboys Natty red paste wax, & am considering returning ti before using it for something slightly higher end. Have any of you had experience with this wax compared to others ?
- How does it compare to Collinite?
- Copare to Pinnacle .
Thoughts on souveran vs. signature II?

4) I asume like wines carnauba waxes have a realistic range of low med high grades & a non nonsensical range that applies law of diminishing returns,. Isn't there a point in which once you get to a high quality carnauba anything after your simply paying for name, hype, fancy packaging, and the prestige without better results? For example Chemical Guys N002 J97 for 1K sounds ridiculous ( Why would any one pay this unless its results of shine, & protection was really 10-20 times better than Pinnacle or just ? I would be hard pressed to believe it gives even 2x the results of pinnacle wax. I guess some people just felt like throwing around money ?
 
I can't say what is best, but Meguiar's 26 is legendary, and certainly in the inexpensive category. You can also put Meguiar's 16 in that category too, although it is no longer sold here in the USA.
 
I just started using Collinite after 30+ years of sealants. I have mainly been using 476S, 885,925 and some 845. They are all impressive so far. I just ordered 915 but have not used it yet. I mainly look for protection and longevity and am testing that now in 110+ temps and monsoon storms. You can spend some hefty dollars on waxes and sealants but it appears Collinite works for me.

IMO:
If a person cleans and polishes the vehicles' paint
to the best as deemed possible, most any finishing
carnauba Wax will suffice...regardless the price.

In fact:
After a cleaning/polishing session, such as mentioned
above, I've even used Formula1, a $3.99 Wax I found
at Menard's, to elicit a most rewarding shine from the
newly cleaned and finely polished paint. :xyxthumbs:

Note:
There are plenty more (anecdotal) examples of
lower-priced Waxes performing in a like manner
that I could share...but that would take up a lot
of broadband space. However they can be found
in the catacombs of FUNX650's detailing-archives.

I agree with bob. Its all in the prep. Its rained almost every day since I put a single coat of 845 on three weeks ago. I could drive in the rain on the highway without wipers today.

Doesn't mean I can keep my mitts off different products
 
Collinite 476 is a great wax. Natty Red is an awesome wax too. Price doesn't mean the wax will be better. Both waxes you mentioned are excellent waxes. Just make sure you put on 476 real thin. If you put it on thick, it is difficult to remove.

Whatever you decide...IMO you can't go wrong!

If you want a better wax than the 2 mentioned above...Pinnacle Souveran is AWESOME. You could always get Collinite 915. These 2 IMO are better.

Again, it's all up to you and you can't go wrong with any of these.

I agree that with a products price doesn't always equate value, but from what your saying correct me if i'm worng is there isn't a noticeable difference between something like Formula 1 for $4, & N002 for $1,000. aI'm still blown away that CG are selling a tub of wax for 1K, though it was a error at first.
After watching many videos comparison on waxes I realizing if the difference is something you have squint and scrutinize it probably means there isn't , visually speaking. Considering your prep work is done correctly . However in terms of protection are they all pretty similar? Carnauba isn't going to last as long as a synthetic correct? So is there a reason I would want full carnauba instead of a blend? What benefits are you getting from a high grade "white" carnauba vs a lower grade?

I agree with you. Paying 1000$ for wax is just for bragging rights.

Collinite 845 last a very long time. I would not be surprised if it lasted longer than some sealants. So not all Carnuba waxes are made equal.
 
If you wash and wax your car on a regular basis I think wax will be fine. I happen to do both sealant and wax.

I think in terms of protection on waxes they do vary. But if you like to wax your car (I do) on a regular basis (for me 1 time a month) then I would not worry about longevity.

BTW, I am not a fan of the synthetic waxes. I tried them and got rid of all of them.
 
It's all subjective, frugal people may like the Formula 1 wax and there are people who think that the most expensive is best. Are there waxes that I prefer? Yes there is. Why do I prefer them? Some have a distinct look, some have better durability but the only feature a wax must contain is ease of use. Instead of driving yourself crazy get out and get some experience with some products, all the adjectives that describe these products are created in a marketing room. Like Fun mentioned prep is the key to gloss and depth after that you find a solid maintenance routine and enjoy

:iagree: That being said I have about 20 + Waxes and still growing!! I am a Waxaholic!! That is my true detail obsession. IMO, you can tell the difference with the types of waxes used. Some waxes do not do well on top of a sealant (ghosting or hazing), but are great just by itself (Dodo Juice Supernatural and 845 are good examples). You learn from trial and error.

The fun thing about waxes (at least to me) you can see the suttle differences with waxes (liquid or paste). Additionally, I learn from trial and error on which waxes do what and how they work with over a sealant or not.

IMO, most waxes offer something a sealant cannot offer and that is depth and warmth. Again, my opinion.
 
M26 is great. It's made with carnauba, but is blended with polymers, resins, and silicone for extraordinary durability. It is pretty tough. Total pain to get out of an applicator, and stood up all spring on the gf's truck. I also like Surf City Garage Barrier Reef paste, and Zymol Creame, and Carbon.

I could go nuts with Carnauba waxes, because I really like them, but limited myself to those four. I have a few tins / tubs of each in my stock.
 
I agree, best to learn by trial and error. In the end if your happy that's all that matters, I live near Chicago so coatings and sealants are needed for durability. I still slap on some old favorites from time to time 50/50, Meg's 26, p21s 100% still have a place in my drawer. Heck I just bought some Meg's Deep Crystal wax just to smell it as that was my choice in high school
 
Not only is the quality of a wax subjective, the price is also. What I consider a good value is not even close to what my wife deems affordable for a car care product! That being said, I have to nominate Pinnacle Signature Series II and BLACKFIRE Black Ice as the best paste waxes for a reasonable price.

For what it's worth, I'm on a Car Pro Hydro2 kick right now. Incredible stuff that is also a "good value" in my opinion.

Welp, I recently did some tests on 3 of my vehicles. The tests are closely related to your questions so I guess this is a good place to post.

First, I'll give short answers from my hobbyist only opinion and experience. Hopefully, we won't start a flame war. 👍🏽

1. Is it worth your time to apply a top coat of carnauba: if you're doing it for looks, nope. If your doing it for protection, who knows? The solvents in the carnauba might be removing the sealant. 😦 if your doing it because you like to, YES!

2. 12 hour cure time: yes. You should wait 12 hours to let it cure.

3. Return carnauba for higher end wax: I don't see a difference between the 6 or 7 different carnaubas I've tried. Price didn't matter. They all looked great.

4. See #3.

I'll look for some pics of my tests.
