Great advice!!! Run with this, Ken.
Thanks for the great advice, it seems as though not everyone on this site offers professional help some just like to belittle you. I was banned but like shady; im back again.

Silverfox yes there are SO many detailers down here its ridiculous.
MIKE yes i have stopped with the cards on car approach, i would leave them slanted between bottom of window and the pillar but after complaints i stopped that.

Guys i really appreciate all your fantastic advice!!!

Word of mouth is the best advertisement.

This is a very cliche and often untrue statement. Word of mouth only kicks in after you are established with a clientele that is high end enough to refer people.

Facebook ads(don't just boost, target a demographic that will include your customers), create a press release, do something DIFFERENT, find something about your and your business that sets you apart. Tell your STORY. People are interested in a personal connection, not just a by the book business transaction.

Pound the pavement like others have said. Hit the business centers with the high price area codes in your area. Place a standing sidewalk-style sandwich sign (that's hard to say!) next to you and the car your detailing with your contact info so others walking by or looking out the window can get ahold of you.

I got most of my quality repeat business from the piece rate auto mechanics that I called on, stopped and introduced myself to. Mainly the smaller mechanic shops rather than large dealerships. These guys often paid cash for my detailing services. Once I did a few cars for one of them, the word got around the shop to the other mechanics, then the service writers and often times it wasn't long before the business owners were calling for the car, the wife's car, the RV etc. etc.

These guys know what hands on work is all about, so they appreciate what we do, especially when we're mobile and do the work on their shop premises.

The mechanics are one group of blue collar workers who talk to car owners all day every day. You take care of them and leave a bunch of your business cards with them and you should start getting calls in short order. Follow up with additional stacks of business cards to replenish the pile they keep on hand and ask them how they're liking the job you did. If they didn't already ask you about it, try to have them drive the wife's car to work and have it detailed for wifey. Happy wife happy life!! Pitch it to them just like that... Happy wife happy life!! We all know it's true.

Offer them something for referrals. Let them know you do an outstanding job, but also let them know you're starving for work at the same time. It's ok to ask for this kind of help face to face... these guys work their butts off on a daily basis and make bank!! They know an ambitious and hungry, new business owner when they "see it." Key is they have to be told it / shown it by you, over and over if need be. Once they know it through some good selling and quality jobs done by you, they'll hand your cards to their clientele personally to get the monthly maintenance, up-sell on the coating, free leather treatment with every 5 referrals... etc. or whatever it is that you're offering as a reward for the referrals.

i knew it would be hard but after things breaking, equipment swapping and getting everything finally running smooth i am left broke. I had the money when i started i should have done a website immediately and uniforms. The only people who liked my facebook page are all randoms when i ran the promotion. my instagram pictures will get 20+ likes but a lot of them are not in the area and i only use hashtags like #orlando #detailersoforlando etc. you can check out my insta its Kensprecisiondetailing i have a nice portfolio of cars. i have pictures of exotics already my main pic on facebook is a gt3RS, i didnt detail it but the owner gave me permission to post it.

I really feel for you, brother. You sound like your confidence has been affected by the tough times that most businesses and business persons experience when they first start trying to get their business off the ground. If I can be allowed to offer you some advice it would be this: don't under any circumstances allow what's happening to you now affect you in the way where you get into a downward spiral of negativity and self pity. I know that it's easier said than done, and I know that you are feeling a great deal of anxiety because you don't want to fail, but I also think that what you're going through is a natural part of starting a new business, and that you cannot afford to get down on yourself at a time like this: It's crucial that you keep your head up and do what you have to in order to keep your dream alive. If you have to take a job for awhile, do it! You mentioned that you're a good detailer; that's great, because to me that means that with confidence, determination, and perseverance, you can succeed. Stay strong, and the best for you.

Don't quit just yet, forget about a website or a company tee shirt,Back in 03 I came down to fla with a brandnew house and no job.Traded in one family car to get a brandnew e250 econoline.I went to a office building and did 2 washes for free,in return of word of mouth.you will have to do some grunt work to get started.seek out some wholesalers, mechanic shops auto transporters or rv parks. There is plenty of work out there and cars.It should take you 3 months at the mimium to make 2k a month. You have to go out and brand yourself,so tell me some prices and packages you offer.

FYI guys, it looks like the OP has been banned from this site.

Good information though!

Wow yeah he's banned. Just saw his previous post on another thread.

That's true. I believe having a good attitude is a major key to success.

I believe life is all about Karma.

I just took a $300,000 piece of packaging business from a competitor yesterday, and truly that had a lot to do with it.

And I agree with you Frank whole heartedly and especially in any service related business.

He's in Orlando and I'll be there all day tomorrow in meetings, may be I'll give him a call and have him detail my "piece of "***" Genesis. LOL
