has anyone tried the flex xc3401vrg yet.

I finally had an opportunity to order replacement bp.

Hey, Zoran, I just got mine today. When I spoke with Powerhouse earlier this week, it sounded like they were initially looking at a 130mm (5.12") bp, but a larger one is on order from Germany at 140mm (5.51"). They had about 7 or so of the smaller one in stock and that's the one I ordered. Should work out nicely with 5.5" pads. Heck, I'll probably order the 5.51" one as well when it's available just to have a spare/backup. This machine is definitely picking up some interest as several others have ordered it / will be ordering on that other detailing forum.

That was my train of thinking too so I already placed an order for 5.5" one on top of getting 5" one. It will allow me to use almost all of my pads (except 5" CCS ones). I just wish 5.1" was actually 5" or maybe even 4.75". Being 5.1 makes it too big for 5" pads and provide way too little comfort zone on 5.5" pads (0.2" from edge of bp to edge of pad).

I have noticed that too and it makes me very happy. Maybe it is just me but I am having an impression rate of new owners checking in seems to be higher than what it was for UDM when it was coming out.

So without taking the backing plate issue into consideration of the Festool, which machine do you prefer?

Wow i just got my new backing plate for free without asking today.to me that is pretty damn good service.

The threads for the Flex - backing plate screws into - are they some metric type or something compatible with either the pc or rotary? I think the answer is no but I wanted to ask.

Flex is not like PC. It is direct orbital drive, it does not use screw to transfer the action. Screw you can see in the middle of the backing plate is there to make sure bp does not fall off / fly off, just holding it in place.

OK, can someone post pic's of this?
Of direct drive? I can not remember did I take/post any so if they are not in my gallery on other site let me know and I will take them when my replacement bp arrives.

This sounds like the tool to have.

Since the correction is so much quicker, it would be a no-brainer to put this in direct competition with the UDM and PC, only you're buying much higher quality machinery that will cut your polishing time down dramatically.

And let's be honest, $269 is not bad for a nice tool.

One more thing: so the speed is determinted by how hard you press on the red button? Or is there a speed "dial" just like on the PC?

Pointing all of that out is, among other things, what got me banned from Autopia.

Speed you can reach is set by speed dial. Trigger allows you to vary speed between zero and speed preset by speed dial. There is also a "lock" button for trigger.

You got BANNED from saying that the FLEX is better than the UDM?

I don't want to be bringing Autopia drama to AGO so I will leave it at what I said and make no further comments.

In Zoran's defense - I will state that he got banned unfairly IMHO and is really missed by many over there. I really appreciate AG for letting this thread go - afterall, it's a discussion on what could be the best defect removal tool for most of us. Heck, I have a rotary but I rairly use it, either it's overkill for what I'm doing or I have an old car that may or may not have much clear coat left and I don't want to find out the hard way! Rotaries do work better and faster - true statement and I will add that it takes a certain amount of talent and training to run one properly. I "can" do it, I find myself not caring to because of the other little steps that you have to do, like tape around trim, cover everything you don't want to clean splatter off of (and don't say you never get any - if so you're buffing dry) then there's the plastic bumpers that you better take REAL easy or you'll need a six-pack to calm down with. 20/20 hind sight - if I had know about the Flex before I bought my rotary, I would NOT have bought the rotary. Right now, I'm saying my $ to get a Flex.

We do miss you over there but hopefully ag will explore the opp to get this machine in it,s inventory for sale to it,s member,s.It is just another tool for people to use and in my opinion a much better tool.

I would be very pleasantly surprised if AG got the Flex - but it would be a win-win for them, for Flex and for us. Now, If I could just find the $$ to get one!
