I appreciate when you share as I feel your input has always spot on (please bro... share more!). Based on your and I believe Aaron NZ’s post I stocked up on MF’s and a bunch of pads before my first polish/coating. I was thinking OPT for value but F’ it. I’m gonna go with the black pearl. It’s not much more than the McKee’s.

Question:

Is Black Pearl a product that I can continually top or do I need to remove and reapply when it needs refreshing?

Appreciate the luv dude. I agree with you on how tuff shine kinda looks like it’s on top of the tire and I don’t care for that myself either. Both McKee’s and OPT look better then Tuff Shine imo.
BP doesn’t need to be topped with anything. Just wash with car soap. Like I told you before, if you wanna try BP or McKee’s, just let me know. I’ll send you 4oz of each.
 
After 3 weeks I lost the fight with myself and gave in....light topper coat added this afternoon. It didn't need it, let's be clear but I gave into the little devil on my shoulder, he said "hey...its been 3 weeks since you last touched them, what's wrong with you!". Plus I'm listening to AC/DC right now, "Hell ain't a bad place to be"

Soooooo, I decided to try something. My front tires are different from my rears but the same make and model, 2 have rim protection and 2 don't. The 2 w/o are on the front and the edges don't look as good as the rears and yes, I understand the whole front wheels turning but I topped my coated tires with Gyeon Tire Express, "just to see" what happens.

Has anyone done this before

If you keep touching those tires your going to wear out the side walls before the thread.
 
So today we took my buddy's RX-7 to check out a carshow, fair amount of driving there and back but once we returned to his house he noticed that brown, curling up sh!t was on the tires again, ###! I mean this has to be from the tires outgasing, pushing through the coating and causing this...right The tires maybe have 600 miles on them and their Continentals FWIW.

Thoughts???

I will say that 3D yellow degreaser at 4:1 will not remove this stuff. Freshens it up rather nice!
 
This product continues to amaze me! I plan on a fresh coat going on about a week before I head down to the Tail of the Dragon. At that point it will be the last coat of the season for those tires as the winters will be going on on Halloween. Once I get some miles on the upcoming Blizzaks I will coat them as well, hard to say how OPT tire coating will do there as winter tires are very pores, stay "tuned"

Soooo, I applied a light coat after I got my new rims installed on Wednesday, come Friday morning pulling into work...brown and crackly, LOL. I did scrub the tires down, rinsed, dried and waited a couple hours but "it" happened.
Last night I did a cleaning/scrubbing using Alien Kleen as well as my car wash soap later, more scrubbing. Lastly I gave them a wipe down with 303 Tire and Rubber cleaner and will check them in a bit. Moral of the story here, once applied just let it ride out, DO NOT top it with itself, it doesn't like itself, LOL

What do you mean by do not top it with itself??

That browning must have been from the deflating/mounting process.

From reading your experience on this and going by my experience with the Tuf Shine coating I am just not a fan. They seem way too finicky. I'll stick with PERL.

Still looking good on my tires. I truly believe a hvlp gun is the best application method!

I can see where you'd say this, I really do but once the tire is completely clean, not 10 scrubbings like I've heard people do with Tuff Stuff, it's all good. I had a bad experience at first, then I used 3 different cleaners at my tires, not sure which one did the trick but it was all good after that. If I had to guess, I'd say the Super Clean aerosol had ALOT to do with it though.

I'm posting here to show the DO'S and DON'TS of the process so future people can see what can and does happen here. I see continued use of this product and a new curve ball is coming soon, brand new Blizzaks and as you know winter tires are very pores because of what they're made to do and that is stay pliable when temps dip below 45 degrees, should be interesting, stay "tuned" and btw I'm going to put some miles on these tires and clean them alot before applying the OPT tire coating

Ok, here's what the tires now look like after the cleaning from last night and using the Master Blaster mini to dry them and 303 Tire and Rubber cleaner for final wipe.

Yeah for sure and I appreciate the info. I'm an Optimum fan and this was a product I considered.

I just don't love the looks of what Ibsee from most coatings. PERL to me looks perfect and is super easy to apply with no issues ever and is fairly durable for a water based dressing. Also inexpensive especially because I dilute 1 •1
