17 Rinseless Washes Reviewed: pictures, charts, smell tests, and pseudo-science

Dang it man, I usually try to read through a whole thread before replying, but you had me laughing out loud at my computer during my lunch break with the smell descriptions. Nearly had to clean the computer at "Minty minty dirty underwear" (Smell preference: Neutral)

This test is at epic scale, both on the logistics of doing the test as well as documenting it all - thank you for taking the time!

Minty minty dirty underwear is neutral but apple and sunscreen are hate.....hmmmm

Definitely some great info here.

If you ever want another go at The Gloss Shop Sublime with the new scent, all signs point to that being what's in my stock. I sniffed it myself and checked the receipt so it should be the cherry limeade version. I've used it for everything but rinseless so far.

I'm too new to rinseless to add value but I can contribute with a sample of it!

Great review and thank you for sharing!

On Ech20, it's a high gloss quick detailer/waterless wash product first. Rinseless is not it's specialty IMO.

Thank you for that...had to be time (and money) consuming. I'm still new to the whole waterless and/or rinseless washing technique and products. This provided some very useful info for me. This is exactly why forums like this one can not become a thing of the past

Nice post. Your DIY detail observations are interesting about being similar to the other product. I just changed to DIY rinseless since it's cheaper than ONR here.

yes, and I don't want it to detract from either of those products. I just wouldn't be surprised if they were the same, or very similar blend.

DIYDetail rinseless is very nice- interesting in cheaper where you are

Nice right up. I used the DP wash and gloss but has the same “greasy” feeling as Uber. Was decent but not earth shattering.

Looks like in color and left gloss like Ech20

Thanks for your comments, and thanks for doing what I couldn't: stick my hands in it

Absolutely fantastic write up!

Once P&S Absolute arrived, I was hooked. For me, I love the smell, love the feel, love the slickness and love the ease of working. Combined with Bead Maker while drying, it's such an addictive combination.

As for Absolute and the blue coloring, I think this is just for the marketing images, unless they added the dye later in the production run. (My early production bottle is white.)

Thank you for taking the time to document and present all this information, I know how much time and effort that takes.

Absolute + Beadmaker is such a strong combo, and what great value too!

I sure wish they would actually add the blue dye to Absolute- would inch it even closer to the perfect product for me (and, knock down the scent by 40% while they are at it)

Great work. Absolute is my favorite too so far from 4 rinse less washes.

I love for them to make the solution blue.

Maybe if we shout this loud enough, they'll listen...

You can really tell they put a lot of work into developing the product. Its so different than anything else- I appreciate that it doesn't seem like a rebottled/tweaked version of something that already exists

Thanks you so much for all the work that you put into every aspect of this, huge respect! A ton of fantastic information. I was actually mulling the idea of rinseless for very light dirt days, and was looking for a "best" sort of guide. Like/Thanks for all your posts.

Sure thing! Glad you found it useful.

Definitely an excellent review. Too much on YT that you fear is subsidized. Wouldn’t disagree with any of your observations. I have used several of these and feel Absolute is probably my choice. I do like McKees 914 though.

Yep: my wife was like "you need to start a channel or make a blog", which would be interesting, but those avenues sort of start to lose their "organic-ness" or impartiality once you realize the recipe is just to drive monetization however possible.

We're lucky to have so many strong choices these days, of which Absolute and N-914 are just two of them

I was hoping I could provide some entertainment with the smell descriptions :D

Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for putting this together. I've only used a few of the ones you tested, Absolute, N914, Wolfgang Uber, and E2H0 (as a drying aid), and also feel that Absolute if my favorite for normal washes.

Feynlab Pure Rinseless is also great but I only use it periodically to deep clean a ceramic coated card. One of the best things about it is how it lays flat on coated cars as opposed to beading up. It cleans extremely well but it'll also strip weaker/weakened toppers or reduce the water behavior of new or stronger toppers.

You've definitely used some of the best ones, IMO. Once you surpass 5 or so... its definitely "you have a problem" territory :wowwow:

Sounds like Feynlab is pretty strong- I suppose that could be beneficial in some cases. Would fill a niche need for sure.
Whats the smell? :D

I know I know.....

Its the "undertone" or something of the ones I don't like. You can tell they are trying to cover something, or the carrier of the scent causes issues or something.

Sort of like the Griots Rinseless Wash and Wax is super strong, but doesn't give me a headache like some of the other strong scents do.
Im sure there's a whole science to it

Thats great to hear- thanks for the intel. Would you say its a strong or mild scent?
What are your overall (non-scent) thoughts of the product for how you've used it?

Man, I think you're exactly right. And you can tell, with how it performs as a rinseless.

Would be interesting if CarPro would come out with a dedicated rinseless product- It'd probably excellent.
They certainly already have enough product differentiation in their lineup

Personally, I'm fine with the scent, in fact it makes me want to go out and mix up a bucket just for fun. Actually, P&S have just announced an Absolute (and Bead Maker) interior scent/air freshener.

As for the coloring, it's a fine line. I like to see what's in the bucket, if only for the placebo effect. On the other hand, if it's taken too far it can cause issues of it's own.

I recently tried an all-new rinse-less product that is colored a lurid tone of pink. In concentrate form, it appears as if it would actually stain. When diluted, the pink coloring remains quite strong.

Thinking about this, the product is from a brand that is new to this space and marketing to an audience not especially educated on rinse-less washing. Ensuring the diluted mixture is completely obvious seems to be catering to those new to rinse-less washing.

Would you say DIY closer to 914 or ONR?

Kinda citrusy chemical. Not to strong but I don’t think my sense of smell is the greatest. I felt absolute was not that strong of a smell at all

If you looking for another rinseless :) You might want to look at Owner's Pride Ecowash its actually 1oz per 4 gallons!

I might try it someday. But the next time i see absolute on sale i might buy the gallon.
