What did you do today non-detailing related?

Did a quick respray of my running boards...would have taken passenger side off but one bolt is stripped.....grrrrrrrrrrrr:mad:

I had my annual meeting with my money guy. My superannuation, I think it's called a 401k in the US, is doing well, seeing nice increases even with the global uncertainties. I went early so I could get some Crumbed Fish and Chips for lunch, only to discover they're closed Mondays. So I got a burger instead and sat by the lakes edge. PSX_20250804_160023.jpg

Google "The Cove Tasmania" tell me want you think of the set up!

Fun Fact we used to snorkel and spear fish near the cove as teenagers.

Very nice, I would stay there, one of the rooms with the big skylights so I could see the night sky, maybe even an aurora.

Edited to add the link, if anyone else wants a look.

My brother and sister in law want to try out the restaurant they have two, and my neighbour went she said the fish was amazing, and she is fussy with food restaurant etc,

Over the weekend my buddy Hectour installed the felt pieces that go under and around the speaker grills, the front ones fell off due to the shape and only being 2-sided tape, so he put some very small screws into those

This is what spending a $100 total can do to uplift the door panels here, adding different textures and materials

He also added LED turn signal bulbs front and back as well, now my car really does look modern

That "effect" on the speaker covers is just some crazy reflection

If you are referring to a
Moiré pattern, it is a visual phenomenon that occurs when two regular patterns, such as grids of lines or dots, are overlaid with a slight displacement or rotation. This interference creates a new, larger-scale pattern that can appear as wavy lines or distorted shapes.

Rant Time! 🤬 My mother rang up about her 100,000km service on her 2016/2017 delivered Volkswagen Amarok.

The dealership that she has been going to since see bought it there and has had it's services done since day one.

They said $1800 $600 for a straight up oil change and the $$$ the rest on the timing chain/belt.

Now $600 for oil, oil filter and air filter genuine VW branded products would only be about half that or more i haven't looked into it,

But that’s the standard price, I would do the services myself BUT not on a European diesel engine.

This is where i get the shits, I want new hi/low beam globe's fitted already bought and they said that would be an hourly charge of $185
WTF 😡

I to can do this job on the passenger side in like 20 minutes HOWEVER the driver's side you have the air box and snorkel intake, so that needs to be removed etc to gain access.

I can't find anything on YT to help as working on these BLOODY Euro car's do my head in.

Basically stick to an Asian petrol car.

I saw this video the other day, this is for changing the cabin air filter on the new VW ID Buzz, you'd think being a van, and electric they would have made it simple, nope. On the FJ I just pop two clips on the glove box and it drops, and it's right behind it. It takes me longer to unload my stuff from the glove box than it does to do the actual job

Edited to add I did a quick search on YT, found something in German but it looks like he's replacing the actual headlights, and the whole front bumper has to come off.

It's times like this when it's great to have a professional photographer on the forum.

I told the boss beforehand NOT to get a ute or a European version of one, fell on deaf ears.

This is not the first time mum's had a mid life crisis, for all that money i would want/except, all fluid flushed, diff, automatic transmission brake power steering, coolant. Being 100,000km but the dealership will slowly bleed her out with this on the next services.

we are currently looking at private mechanics.
