well my brother bought a 94 viper almost 2 months ago. 6spd 30xxx miles he drove it home to illinois from conneticut for thanksgiving. well he went to visit friend thanksgiving night and let his friend drive it. yep you guessed it. his friend totaled the car. back end broke lose and his foot got caught under the clutch. he jumped a curb hit a fire hydrate and took out a few small trees. my brother was not in the car and his friend has a leg broken in 2 places. everyone is ok thank god. my brother is already saying his gonna get another one with the insurance money

Wow, that's messed up. You're brother's friend is lucky he only has a broken leg. A Viper a car you really need to get a feel for before you jump on it. I don't let to many people drive mine.

Good luck I hope the insurance takes care of it. Thank goodness nobody was hurt to bad

Damn thats crazy, when i first seen the picture i though it was worse for the driver but just a broken leg... all i can say someone was looking down at him.

this friend that he let drive it he has known since they were like 6 years old they are 28 now. so he is someone he has known basically his whole life and thinks of him as a brother. and this friend owns his own performance shop and has always been around high power cars so my brother really had no worries about letting him drive it.

I just hope he makes out ok with the insurance company. I've had to fight with them before on a couple of cars that were totaled. One I had only about 3 months and they only wanted to give me wholesale price for it which would of left me oweing money much less losing everything I had put down and the payments I had made. Good Luck to him

I am sure this friend will make up the difference if there is any shortage.

I wonder how fast the friend was going....at least 30 mph.

i have not heard how fast he was going all i do know is he was in 3rd gear. and the guy is a drag racer so i am sure he was winding the gears out. my brother did say he gets to 50 in 1st gear

Those picturres sure look like more then a broken leg, he's very lucky to be alive. Several months ago here in central NJ two police officers (I thinks both captains) were driving a Viper that had been rented by one of the officers brothers when it they got on it and lost control. The passenger was killed and the other officer driving is facing a minimum of 10 years in prison. Cars like the Viper with crazy power can't be driven like a Honda Civic or the like. Again,I'm glad he got away with just a broken leg.

this was a 94 so it only had like 450 horsepower. it was just a cold night with slick streets. my brothers friend that was driving normally drives a 500 horsepower AMC Sprint so this was not an issue of to much power. but i do agree there are people who just can not handle much power

And that's why you let no one drive your car.

Man he is lucky he still has legs looking at those photos. Thats why I let no one drive my cars.

work for a fire department and have seen one wrapped around a pole and another in the front of a house. The one in the house was bought that day and he had his six year old in the front seat. Apparently there needs to be a recall on Vipers to fix the steering defect!!!

steering defect? its called too much torque and no diff.

im glad the driver was ok and i hope things work with the insurance for your brother. dodge shouldnt be allowed to make high powered cars, look at the number of accidents and fatalities in vipers and neons. 500 hp in a viper is not the same as 500 hp in most anything else and experience driving fast cars doesnt really prepare someone for the experience. the driver, owning a performance shop, should know that. where does he work? i never want to take my car there and have him test drive it.

I'm on my 2nd Viper and there's no steering defect. There may be some driver defects in not knowing how to handle a car with that much power.

i dont have any personal expierence driving vipers but i have heard in the past that the suspension is not up to par with the power ther have and once they get lose there is no getting them back
