Hi guys, I wanted to let you guys know things are changing a bit for me. First I want to say that this community has been extremely supportive, generous, and kind to me in many ways and I sincerely want to thank each one of you for that. I’ve made some great friends and really appreciate each of their friendships. As you all know I love to test products and write reviews as much as I like to detail cars. For me this has been a wonderful hobby.
However the more time I put into it and the more I got back from it the more I felt a responsibility to provide updates and reviews sometimes even when I might have preferred a break. I began to start thinking about how I might turn it into a small business where I could be compensated for the time invested. But how could there be any kind of business model for writing reviews that people write for free and what company would pay you to write an honest review when they can pay someone to just write the high points of their product. Another challenge would be that one of the main reasons people enjoy my reviews is that I am not being paid which helps them trust that I am being honest. For awhile this fact deterred me from doing anything about it but as a couple companies contacted me I decided it was something I wanted and I shouldn’t worry about what others think. As long as I have faith in my honesty that’s all that matters. Anyone else may or may not judge my actions and that is more that understandable. It reminds me of a quote “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don't mind”. There is truth to that although I also think it’s important to keep an open mind. You never know when you might be wrong.
That brings us to today and I’ll try to get to the point. I decided to walk through this “open door”. I’ll be walking a fine line but I have and will make it a point to tell companies I work with the following. I will continue to be honest in my reviews and while I may be right or wrong on a point I will state what I believe to be the case.
Anyway, I’m going to cut this short now because it’s not my intent to try to promote anything on here. I just thought it was very important that I tell everyone that has treated me so well and often times trusted me what was going on. Just to be clear I’ve never been paid for a review before. There was a period of time I wouldn't even accept the product that was to be reviewed from a manufacturer without paying for it. Moving forward from today I will be paid for some reviews. This is still a hobby for me and something I love, so when I find a product I love or I just feel like writing a review I will do so for fun.
As far as how it affects anyone who follows my reviews the only changes should be as follows. I will have more communication with the manufacturers of some products and I may post reviews of more than 1 product from a specific line in succession. If you ever feel like a review is pulling punches or have any concern please don’t hesitate to state your thoughts.
Thank you for all your kindness and support,
Corey
