So I feel like my windshield is completely ruined...

Alright, so back in early October, I bought a wonderful wax called Collinite 845, and it's definitely holding up well on the car.

The problem is, I applied it to my windshield (I actually found that some users here even do that with C845 and other waxes)...big big big mistake.

Now, whenever rain happens, I get this:

If you try to wipe the water off, whether with your hand, towel, or windshield blade, this pattern that looks like camo occurs, like something is trapped underneath...

I tried stripping the wax, from what I remember, I've tried:

-Dish soap
-Windex
-Invisible Glass
-Diet Coke
-Acetone (real strong stuff, not nail polish)
-Goo Be Gone

After all this, this pattern still occurs. Either this was is very strong (water seems to still bead on windshield...) or my window is stubborn/ruined.

Any help appreciated, thank you.

Wash the windshield with APC and let it dry on there. Then rinse and wash with your regular soap. That should definitly do it

You could also just clay it

I would use glass cleaner and steel wool #0000. Then I would try compounding the windshield. M105 and a DA should remove those nasty stains.

APC? Like Ammonia?

I'll try that once I can get some.

I was thinking about a claybar or even 0000 steel wool...probably be my last resorts.

What is DA? I'm not familiar with all the tools and products lol.

Alright, so I'll get some Simple Green then. Otherwise I'll try that Meguiar's stuff, seems pretty nice.

Try using some of this...its supposed to strip paint of old wax. Do no spray it directly on to the windshield as you may run the risk of stripping the wax on the paint. Spray it on a terry cloth or something. It worked great with removing my LSP from my previous detail. I've never used it on glass though.

Griot's Garage Paint Prep, Griots Paint Cleaner, Prewax cleaner

Get anything but that ;)

Castrol Power Clean or Purple Power are 2 OTC products you should try. Both can be mixed 50/50 and provide excellent results

This seems like good stuff. I could even use it for next time when I have to re-wax my car.

Any other suggestions?

Alright, so I guess I'm skipping simple green. I thought that would be a good APC lol.

Thats why we're here. To protect you from yourself

The GG product would work great too!

So mind if I ask why this even happened? Is it because I did not prep the windshield correctly? I'm kind of baffled how bad I seemed to have screwed up lol.

Alright, so I'll probably try that garage stuff, unless others have any other comments.

I see ppl post that they wax their windshields. Not me though. I waxed a doctors wifes MB windshield once and it had tremendous wiper hop. That was all I needed with that expierment

Get RainX instead :props:

I'm not even gonna touch the windshield after I fix this lol, IAc think I've learned my lesson. I wonder how people even say they get good results from waxing their windshield...just look at mine, it's terrible...especially when it's raining and it's dark outside.

Also, good review! That stuff looks pretty neat, I think I'll be ordering some tomorrow unless there's a stronger product. I honestly thought Acetone (which is usually used in labs as a cleaner) would kill this wax or stain. I'm surprised it didn't.

RainX or Stoner rain repellant is great! I use it on my cars and never had any problems with it.

Why not contact a company that deals in glass, specifically automotive and ask them?

You could try some of this: DP High Performance Glass Restorer removes etched water spots from auto glass and restores perfect clarity. Apply with a polisher or applicator for

It's best applied by machine, but I've used it successfully by hand. Although the last time I cleaned a windshield that looked that bad, I used M105 on a 4" pad.

Where are you located? Maybe I can send you a small sample of the DP Glass Restorer if you're interested.

That would be amazing, I'm located in New York.

@RTexasF: That would be a pretty good idea, but I have a feeling they wouldn't tell me how I can fix it, but how they can fix it and charge me a large sum. It'd be my last resort if I can't fix it myself.

I recently put Opti-coat 2.0 on my windshield and now have something similar to what you've pictured. Most noticable on mine during light rain at night with oncoming headlights. You are lucky because some of the options mentioned should work for you without using a DA. I'm going to have to use polish with a DA followed by GG paint prep. Mine is my own fault because OC official stance is to not use on the windshield.
