So I'm on this kick where I think the interior looks better without a dressing. I use megs water based dressing diluted to about 1:1
I detailed a buddies car yesterday and my cousins today neither got a dressing. My one buddy works at a dealership so he thoroughly inspected the car and he didn't say anything about not dressing it. I just feel its a more natural look and a cleaner look.

Is this bad?

Not a hack, but you really aren't offering the level of service that most detailers do. If you don't like shine there are plenty of products on the market that will offer som UV protection without changing the look of the dash.

I personally don't like the greasy look. Most ppl do though

Where was it written that shine=clean?
I prefer no dressings also, but you have to protect

Very true- Question is the more I dilute the megs does this equal less protection? Should I stop diluting at 50%

I wouldn't call you a hack. But you could maybe try something like UIGP.

No hack as long as you are thoroughly cleaning it and paying attention to detail.

Depends on the level of service you want to provide... You want to provide protection and leave the car looking new don't you? But you don't like gloss?

There's an app for that! :)

If you want a deep rich color and a satin finish there's an app for that!

You want no gloss but a true matte seal? There's an app for that too!

Here's another great option that has some gloss but a controllable level

303AP is a great product as well.

And as you know if you want to bling it up you can use plenty of things...

to me 303 gives a lot of shine. i like the look it gives, but i use it primarily for the protection. that to me is more important! =)

Pick up some Meg's QID... it has UV protection in it and doesn't change the look of materials at all.

You dont need a dressing. I only use a dressing when I want to cover something up , like faded vinyl.

Einszett Cockpit Premium or Poorboys Natural Look is clean and fresh without being matte or glossy.

I wouldn't say you're a hack, but there are plenty of products that give the trim a richer look without being shiny. (I hate shiny/ greasy/ armorally- YUCK!).

i like dp interior protectant but it does offer some shine to it, pinnacle vinyl/rubber protectant has a little more shine then the dp(imo), and megs natural shine if i want more gloss(don't reach for this one much). however i found one with very little shine and dont laugh or anything its "black magic anti-static dust guard protectant" it darkens some but leaves very little gloss, little change in feel of the parts you used it on. dont use this one much as i prefer alittle sheen on my dash...was suprised that it was pretty"flat" for the brand/cost.
in all honesty i wouldn't just leave it with no protectant as it does protect from uv damage such as the cracking and oxidizing. i wish a long term test was done on a dashboard, to see how well protectant's worked against dash going to crap.....

p.s sorry AG because the black magic product is not sold on the store but just trying to help..

UV degradation is not much of a problem anymore as it was for cars 20+ years ago. Different materials are used now that have higher uv resistance. Also automotive glass blocks a percentages of UV rays. Dont buy to much into the idea of adding UV protectants and it doing anything significant. If they really do so much we should have some amazing sun block on the market that we dont have to re applying every couple hours. As long as there is a market for something companies will exploit it.
