Is 12/21/2012 the end?

The Mayans could predict eclipses and other astronomical events millions of years in the past and future future better than our own current day calendars can.

This day is the end of their long count calendar and not only does it say it is the end of one era but the start of another. Most importantly it is a cycle of renewal. Based on our position in the universe (remember, we are not simply revolving around the sun...) Our sun revolves around its mother and our moves as well... If you look at Gods creation you could well expect that our known universe also revolves around something unknown to us.

Mayan mythology foretells the creation story of the Hero Twins and the end of the present Haab or Long Count calendar cycle; this rare cosmic event, the cross formed by the intersecting Milky Way and the plane of the ecliptic path of our solar system, was symbolized with a Ceiba Sacred Tree of Life by ancient Maya and marked the end of a cycle and the beginning of a new era.

The world will almost certainly NOT end on Dec 21st 2012. There is certainly nothing that says it will and in fact the bible and many other historical books don't jive with that.

In my research on the subject I have come to the opinion that we have about a 40%-80% shot at some serious changes coming. What they are nobody knows. The only thing we know for sure is that people love to make money off of fear.

11/11/11 marked the end of the Mayan Male Energy Cycle.
2012 is the start of a new healing cycle.... "A renewal of the female energy in our planet's collective consciousness, a gentler energy that will guide us all to become more aware of our intertwined multidimensional existence and begin the process to awaken the collective mind to reconnect with the Cosmos with a new understanding."

Just to add: The Hopi believe and have been warning that a 25 year purification period will follow this cycle while the Zulu believe their will be a polar flip. (different than the polar shift that is ongoing)

Thanks so much for taking time to gather facts; your balance to this thread is appreciated. It can make for an intelligent and interesting discussion.

First and foremost, the Mayans did not predict 12/21/2012 as the end of the world; its the interpretation of some of todays scholars that made that assertion.

Secondly the Mayans were among the most brilliant and skilled astronomers & mathematicians who constantly followed the movements of the sun and the moon. They predicted eclipses, explained the movements of planets, and devised a sophisticated calendar of the solar year. They predicted the movement of Venus crossing the sun in June of 2012. AND they did all this by looking at the sky; there are few today that can look in the sky and identify even a planet!

Whatever your beliefs, what they were able to accomplish is amazing even in todays standards. Todays most brilliant minds would be hard pressed to duplicate their finding without the use of computer models and telescopes.

Agree 100%

The Mayas were in many ways more advanced than their contemporaries. Mathematically, they understood and had the concept of a zero, something the Romans didn't even have. Astronomically, they knew that the evening star and the morning star was the exact same planet. Again, the Romans and other civilizations thought that it was two different planets. Their calculation for the lunar cycle was more accurate than any civilization until the 20th century.
Did the Maya predict that the world would end in 2012? Most scholars would say no. However, as noted earlier, it is the end of their Long Count calendar.

As a couple other members mentioned, this whole end of the calendar is just a beginning of a new cycle for mayans. Now supposedly all the planets are going to be lined up. I am not one bit worried, but I will stay up all night and laugh at all the people who thinks it is real.

Are you saying The Apoalypse equals The End of the World ???

Big difference between the two, IMO.

:)

Bob

Interesting...what do you see as the difference?

And Capa, thanks for the added info..most interesting!

For those of you who are really interested on the Maya, I would recommend the book "The Maya" by Michael D Coe, professor of anthropology at Yale university.

Corey is stating that there is some credibility to the idea that there are changes that could take place due to astronomical events.

I don't know when the world will end, I don't know how to interpret Mayan writings / symbolism, but even modern scientists agree that there is a rare event that will happen on that date cosmologically.

You can dismiss the idea that the world will end, but you cannot dismiss planetary events that were predicted by a civilization whose mathematics and astrology rival ours in the computer age.

Just make sure you have a few layers of Fusion on your car, and everything should be OK. LOL

How long is the book? I'm a slow reader and am afraid I won't get through it by the 21st. :buffing:

Barnes & Noble usually carries it. You could always stop there and just leaf through the sections that interest you. I believe it's around 300 pages. It's more of a professional college textbook for laypeople. Most people would consider it dry but informative.

Matthew 24:36

No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father

Acts 1:7

He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority

Deuteronomy 29:29

The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law
Amen and Amen.

I had planned to stop paying all of my bills in the summer and taking a cruise around the world. You mean to tell me that I have to change my plans?

I'd like some accurate predictions because if I buy that Lamborghini the week before the 21st and then have to make the first payment because the world didn't end, I'm gonna be pissed :xyxthumbs:

Amen and Amen.

God will probally put an end to it all on the 20th of Dec 2012 just because :D

Why try and guess when the end will come? All it takes is an air bubble to the brain (stroke) or one skipped heart beat and life will be over as you know it. That my friend could happen at any moment to any of us ;)

It turns out it's more about an amazing civilization than the ending of the world..its beyond amazing what they were able to figure out! I'll be doing more reading about the Mayan's; they have me intrigued!

...or a gamma burst or undetected asteroid or bird flu, weaponized ebola, the list goes on for planet earth to have a bad day.

The reason this is all being brought up is that someone is trying to make money off the concept - books, movies, tv, etc.

Wait a second...make money?. But there are books, lots of them, there was a movie called "2012" it wasn't very good and there are lots of TV specials on the Discovery Channel and History Channel. I bet the Mayan knew people would try and profit off their brilliance...those damn Mayans!

Heck, in today's capitalist society I am surprised someone hasn't created a goofy website called a "MAYAN GEEKS" (MG for Short) It would include:
  • A forum where obsessed people talk endlessly about the Mayans, 22 hrs, 7 days a week
  • A store that sells overpriced and over hyped Mayan and Non-Mayan artifacts; they could have sales like 20% off and the forum members would go nuts buying stuff
  • They could have a special book written by one of the Mayan Geek Expert
  • They could sponsor a segment on a TV show
My bad, that would just be stupid!

They were way off! Their apocalypse came when the Spaniards landed.
