Hey Guys - I wanted to share the boat detail pics from today. I was extremely happy with the turnaround as was the client. For a 12 year old boat, the turnaround surprised me - had to toss a pic of the truck we polished today as well in the mix. I believe I now have a new passion to turnaround gel-coat lol..... Have another boat to do in a week that I hope equivalent results are produced :dblthumb2:. Not many good befores and afters - but I am proud to share the pics I have:

For the boat :

2 Makita Rotarys

cutting pads - 3m white

light cutting pad - black (don't know what company but not 3 m)

Extreme cut compound

Heavy cut Compound

AIO wax/sealant

Patience

IMO not at all - Gel-Coat is much harder and a DA is worthless if the gelcoat is "oxidized" or in rough shape. I did not use a 6 pass method (which I do use on clears) for this process. Also I turned up the volume on the rotary to a point beyond safe IMO that would be used on clear. I use a completely different technique and procedure than I would on clearcoat.

I'm doing my trailer very soon and it has moderate oxidation. All I have is a GG DA so I'll have to make do(must be better than by hand) what technique do you use for gelcoat? Boat turned out GREAT, you guys are amazing!
