my detail - problems

They left rotary swirls (aka holograms) you can see it in his pictures. These guys do it all the time, unless its a black car, might not show up right away to most people. And the rest buy the BS excuse the "pro detailer" gives them about sealants not bonding to paint ( hilarious!).

They need to use a DA polisher to get them out the right way. Get a refund, don't let them touch it with another rotary, every time they do, they are removing precious clearcoat and not completing the job (obviously).

Ask them for a refund, at least get $200 back for the damage they caused. Personally, I would sue them for the damage done , because it will cost more than $400 to re-paint that car if they removed a ton of clearcoat.

Do not go back please.
I would chalk it up to a bad experience and fix the car yourself. With all of the information available on this forum and on the AG site you can purchase a D/A polisher and the products that will give you the satisfaction of doing it correctly yourself. Plus they will last you for many years and let you perform details on many vehicles from a modest investment.

This shop will not do anything but remove more paint from your vehicle, but you will still have the holograms requiring further proper correction.
Clearly after the story they told you their incompetence is unquestionable.

Hi David,

I'm actually shocked at the crap job they did and to actually say it's probably the paints fault takes the cake in my opinion....

Before I try to recommend an approach, help me help you....:props:

How experienced are you with finish restoration?
What equipment and products do you have?

That's hack work. Please don't take it back and let them work on it again. The excuse they gave is a joke. The problem is the glaze they used to hide their crappy work is gone and you can see the holograms. If you take it back they will probably just make it worse or could burn through the clear in some spots.

If you aren't comfortable fixing your self after reading some on here I'm sure you could find a good detailer in your area on this forum

After a long day of being pissed off at the shop (I will not name them here), and numerous conversations with tuscarora dave and all the great posts of everyone here, Ive decided to go out and get a porter cable orbital machine and do it myself. If i mess it up then its my fault. I will ask for advice on products, ways to do this correctly so I can make this fun.

I will be sending the Dupont registry, Angie's list, and Yelp complaints for this shop as they refused to refund my money. Maybe I can help one soul from getting taken like I was.

Thank you to all who posted.. I hope to buy you all a beer and a shot someday!

You should name them here for numerous reasons.

Such dodgy shops shoul be fully exposed to save other people.

What did they say when you asked your money back...?

I've got a PC 7424 and Meguiars products you're welcome to come use if you would like before spending a bunch of $$. Not that I'm discouraging you from buying your own tools and supplies, but if you would like to give polishing etc a whirl before buying the offer is open.

Same here. I have a Porter Cable 7424XP and Makita 9227. I also have the Meguiars line but normally have been polishing with Menzerna lately. I'd be happy to lend a hand, no money changing hands necessary. I can also teach you the process if you're interested. I just hate to see a guy get screwed like this.

I also tend to agree, you should definitely expose the shop for the hack work they have done.

I think we need a "Hall of Shame" group in this forum; much to learn from other people's mistakes.

Good point, I should have mentioned that in my post as well.

On a side note, I'm looking into throwing together a Labor Day weekend meet for another forum at my place, be on the lookout for information to be posted here as well.

Did I miss it...

Where are you located? Probably a 'member' locally that can give you a hand.

Yea, I'm all for a "Hall of Shame" too.

Bill

those last 2 pictures speak for themselves! DONT GO BACK! they will do the same thing the second time.

looking at what the service included, why did u pay $400 when it looks like it should have been $265? looks like the almost charged you double for a hack job.

sorry this happened to you

Just saw this thread after David mentioned it today during our long conversation. The photos looked exactly as I imagined after we talked on the phone David, with the typical swirls and holograms caused by improper rotary usage. Not to get your hopes up, but from simply looking at the photos it doesn't look horrible, however that paint is the "good" black paint and can hide a bit, especially in the photos.

In any case, looking forward to meeting you tomorrow and seeing what we can do to fix this problem.

Oh and as someone above said, I too would urge you, the customer and consumer, to share the name of the detail shop so others don't get taken for the same ride. As a business owner in the same industry I wouldn't dare share the info in public so as not to cause any bad publicity, but based on all the work I have to fix coming out of that shop I am starting to want to call the owner myself and have a little discussion. Unfortunately, that would lead to absolutely no change as their target market is the customer who doesn't care or know enough to truly inspect the paint after wasting money on the detail job.

In any case, see you tomorrow!

Awesome!! I'm glad to see that David is getting his car into good hands!!

Thanks to all who posted and emailed and that I spoke with..

Looking forward to meeting Ivan tomorrow AM to see if we can fix the problem..

From the shop's website:

"Buff and wax treatments done at some other detail shops initially look good, but actually damage the paint surface since many of these shops often do not decontaminate and properly clean the finish prior to buffing. The shine goes away after a couple weeks due to inferior products and important detailing steps that are left out."

/facepalm.

It amazes me that shops like this can get so big and become so successful. How does this happen?
