I took my tC in yesterday to get the windows tinted, I went to a local place that did my sons car because they did a nice job on it and they are local. Their main business is a car wash that also does complete details so I thought they would respect my car. I washed it Friday night then Saturday morning I wiped it all down with a QD and decided to go ahead and clean the glass for them. My car was spotless! when I took it in and the Fuzion was really shining. I figured they would take a little more care with a clean shiny car then maybe a dirty one. Well I was mistaken! When I picked up my car I looked it over real good and there was dried dirty water all over the paint around the doors, all over the roof glass and all the windows had spots, smudges and streaks all over them. There were even water spots on the door sills, rear bumper and hatch jambs. I was not happy so i went into the office and asked to speak to a manager and was told there wasn't one there right now and the guy that did the tint was nowhere to be found so I told the girl how unhappy I was and she acted like she didn't care. She said I could run it through the car wash and I told her I could live with the dirt but not the scratches from their wash!
It just really makes me mad that I take my car to a place that advertises full details and I get it back way dirtier then before. I also think if someone is doing tint they would want to make their tint look good as possible and clean the outside of the glass to show it off but it was so spotted and streaked that I could hardly see the tint.
I went home and cleaned it all up again then looked at the tint real good today after it had a chance to dry and it looks really good so he did a good job with that but I got the impression that he really takes no pride in his work!
OK rant over I just had to get that out of my system! Thanks for listening!

I too HATE taking my car ANYWHERE!!! Even for something simple as an inspection. PEOPLE!!!!

Im the same way. Last week I got my front end aligned and tires rotated. I asked the to cross the tires, instead of the useless front to back. When I was checking out my girlfriend called me so I got distracted. When I got home, I looked at the bill and they charged me $20 to look over my car, (wich I didnt ask for) then I looked at my tires and they did the front to back rotation. I was pissed and it was sunday, they were closed.

They tinted your windows, you know what's all involved there, right? I expect my car to have smudges and dried up water all over it after a tint job. I understand how much time you put into it but look at it like this, it cleans right up, right?!

Any pics of the car after the tint job?

I understand what's involved but what I don't understand is why I have to be the one to clean up after?
That's like picking up your car after having engine work done and having grease all over your fenders and steering wheel and the mechanic saying "you know what's involved there, right?
I just think if someone took pride in their work they would clean up after themselves and not leave the clean up for the customer.

I agree with you, but from one geek to another, I Do Not let these places clean my car once their done with their work and I let them know to leave it dirty...

why?

I would rather clean the water spots, doorsills, glass, etc etc etc. Rather than have someone who will most likely take the simple shop-rag (which has who knows what on it) and clean the streak windows, scratch the doorsills clean, and wipe the interior panels down.

Sorry no pics yet. I do have some pics of after I first cleaned and waxed it after I first got the car about two months ago. I've been meaning to post them, guess I need to do that. I have a few more mods I want to do before I take any more pics. The car just doesn't look right the way it is now so I'm not wasting any MB's on it! (Remember when we used to say "I'm not wasting any "film" on it"?)

i had the same exact thing happen when i got my car tinted as well. they spray the water formula all over the outside/inside windows (gets all over the paint as well) when they trace the tint piece and when they apply it. all you can do is wash your car/wipe down the interior as soon as possible...

I know what you mean.

I took my car to a bodyshop last week to get my bumper replaced. When I was talking to the estimator, I told him that I do not want them to wash my car. I showed him how it was swirl free, and that I do no want to risk any marring from their wash bay. He was cool with it.

Then out of the blue after that conversation, he puts his finger on the hood and swipes it as if he saw something on the paint. I was seconds from blowing up, but I didn't want to cause a scene as I could just polish out any damage he just put in(car is opti-coated). But I couldn't believe it.

These guys are so dense when it comes to paint care. I dont understand how they know how to paint, but they don't know how to take care of and treat paint. Mind=blown

It's amazing to me that we can drive down a highway at 80mph (west Texas) and do less damage than one person's finger. Although some of those dust storms are pretty crazy.

If they scratched your car thats one thing but if its got water spots thats another. Just clean it up again. It would be mice to get your car back the way you gave it to them but if it was that perfect when you gave it too them you have to expect getting it.back with some dirt. Be positive about it because maybe the guy would have used some junk products to clean it up. Be happy with the tint.

Yeah, I hate the mess tinters make, both inside and out, but I'm happy my guys don't try to cleanup after themselves and make things even worse.

Been there done that. Did the exact same thing. Cleaned her up real nice and dried water all over when I picked it up...

Took my car in for service once and the fool working on my car forgot to hook my intake back up to the throttle body! wtf?

Thanks everyone for the replies. I feel better now. I guess I should have expected what I got but it's just a little aggravating when you work so hard and someone just doesn't take a little more care.
The tint has dried in and it looks really good and I am enjoying it!!!
For those who wanted to see pics you can see it here http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/show-n-shine/55929-2010-tc-rs6-0-a.html but like I said, no pics of the tint until I make the rest of the car look like it should!

I understand u want it looking as clean as it was when u dropped it off, but me personally, i would not want them to clean up after themselves, especially the paint, since they will probably only instill swirls in the paint from improper washing techniques.

got to pick your battles i guess!

As of late, I realize more often than not that I am not an AutoGeek.
Thanks for posting:props:

As said above it could have been worse and they cleaned it for you. I have just learned to deal with it over the years and never expect anyone to treat my vehicles like I do. If it does happen I am pleasantly surprised. My clear bra guy gets a kick out of watching me follow him around cleaning up the mess he makes on my cars. Sometimes I swear he sprays a little extra just to piss me off.

Yes, body shops are some of the worse offenders! Last paint repair I had to deal with was a bust as I didn't follow my usual procedure of droping off a spotless exterior followed by an inspection by the manager showing him a flawless finish and stating my expectations of receiving the car back from him in the same condition. I also make it perfectly clear when getting a quote my expectations of them that I am willing to pay extra for the extra care. When I went to pick up my 3 month old car I was welcomed with the sight of the young shop gopher washing my car with a wash broom! Needless to say swirl city. I informed the owner of the damage, told him not to attempt to fix and that I wouldn't be back and would be going out of my way to make sure I would let everyone I know of my experience with his shop. Took the car home and spent the next two days compounding and polishing his screw up. Honestly they should know better. BTW... the shop came recommended by a friend who has been in the auto body business for 25 years.

Like I said it could have been much worse. Be happy that you got a quality tint job.

I've learned over time that when it comes to body shop recommendations, some people are just BLIND. People swear a shop does great work, until I point out all the flaws. I've learned to go to the shop, ask for a tour, check out the work, then decide.
