Hey guys! Its been a looong time since Ive posted on these forums! I now have a full time job, so detailing is only a weekend hobby/career for me. I have still been detailing cars here and there over the last year, but this year I am excited to get back into the game. I see there are some great new products now available and I still have a lot I want to add and improve on and it will come slowly over the course of this year.

This car belonged to a long time customer of mine who recently acquired this 2009 "Solid Red" Nissan GTR. With only 15k miles on the clock, the paint was in pretty bad shape from the previous owner. Knowing what I was capable on his past vehicles, the client called me up and we quickly scheduled a date to perform my a full correction on his GTR. When he told me it was in bad shape over the phone, I just figured it had the normal minor swirling and the car would still be in relatively good shape..this was not the case.

Pre-Detail Inspection

As you can see in the following pictures, the paint was full of RIDS and imperfections. I knew I was going to have my work cut out for me.

A fairly deep gouge in the paint from the previous owner, luckily still not through the base coat completely, I was able to make it much less noticeable after polishing.

Wheels

As with any super car, you need super brakes, which also generate a ton of brake dust!

After soaking with P21S Wheel Gel, the wheels were then agitated with a wash mitt and EZ-Detail Brush.

A Swissvax Boars Hair Detail Brush to reach the tighter areas like the Brembo Brake Calipers.

The owner decided he did not care for the black vinyl on the wing, so it was removed.

He also decided to ditch the Nissan badge on the trunk lid.
2009-Nissan-GTR-020-882x588.jpg

With a little prying using fishing line and heat gun, the badge was removed safely.

The remaining double side tape was removed using a 3M Pinstripe Removal Wheel.

Paint Correction

Irony. This GTR had incredibly soft paint, I'd hate to find out what Nissan paint engineers classify as a "soft" clearcoat!

After First Stage of Compounding. The gouge in the paint is still slightly noticeably under the direct halogen lighting, but you would have a hard time ever seeing it if you didnt know it was there. Even the owner had a hard time finding it and it was one of his main concerns with the correction. I call that success!

The eraser wheel used to remove the badge residue left a bit of marring on the paint, which is easily polished out.

Great job! Thats how Godzilla is supposed to look! Love the debadge btw.

Amazing work! I love polished and perfected red paints!

Awesome work Bud. Great turn around and wow I never thought I would say this bit without the badge, the car actually look better. Didn't like that black decal on the spoiler, glad you took it off. Amazing work. I just liked your Facebook page as well.

Thanks for all the compliments guys! I dont know why I stayed away so long, this is what makes all the hard work worth it!

I am looking forward to trying some new products this year, I can see I am a little behind the curve on the latest and greatest. This year is going to be fun!

Just wanted to let you know, the link to facebook in your signature is broken. :poke:

Great work! It seems the GTR paint is difficult to work with. The odd thing is my 2001 Pathfinder has the same "hard clear" sticker:

eqy9a6yh.jpg

But my paint IS super hard and does not mar or correct easily. Go figure.

Great work getting those swirls out. It pops like mad in the after shots!

Thanks, I agree! It looks so much cleaner! If it were mine, Id think about moving the "GTR" badge up onto the right corner of the trunk as well. Would clean up the bumper a bit and make it unique. Pretty much just like the older generations,

Excellent rescue job! I've always been behind the "got it, drive it" philosophy, but man...you also have to take good care of it. It's sad when nice cars are neglected. My lowly DD receives better treatment than some of the exotics I see.

Anyhow, which product(s) did you use for the cockpit?

This car will definitely be driven hard! It was in the middle of having a complete exhaust, intake and hard pipes installed and was being tuned by Alpha at Induction Performance the weekend I worked on it. Completely stock it made 460whp/427tq. With only a day on the dyno, no modifications, it made 494whp/459tq. I havent got an update on what its making with the new power adders..

For correction M105/PFW was used, followed by M205/Orange. Two coats of BFWD was used to protect.

great work

interesting finishing combo. would've thought with soft paint it wouldn't finish down well with 205/orange. I'll have to try that.
