teenager looking for money on the side

Just a simple menu with Basic, Advanced, and Premium or something to that nature would work.

I started out with the same type of thing... my menu was literally: Interior, Exterior, Full. You gotta start somewhere. :props:

Put the work in, who knows maybe the parents will hire you to detail their cars. Seems like a pretty good connection in my opinion.

Hmm... Maybe... (I'm Still learning)

You can charge the kids like $20 to teach them how to properly wash their own car? But I highly doubt a high school kid cares or can afford even $5 some might tough and go find them. Go make business cards, it will help you take the first step (well from where I grew up $5 dollars could be spent on a weekend out with friends and Gf's)

i got this car (in good condition) when i was in HS probably like 17 (don't remember exactly) and I rarely washed it, at the time some girls were mad at me and they threw yogurt on it. (I swear was innocent 🙈🙉🙊 haha)

A friend was drunk he was like 17 and we were on the fwy I told him he better not throw up inside the car. so he stuck his head out the window on the fwy and puked all over the car's right quarter panel and fwy haha, had him hose it down the next morning. And I just let it dry off and blow off in the wind while in the fwy. Another girl peed inside, a girl through up inside etc...Never new what the consequences could be, till I got older. My Gf needed a car so I just gave it to her.

Maybe you can give lessons and explain to your peers why they should take care of the paint?

And maybe you can work your way up to the parents. Having business cards and handing them to the parents instead of your peers might get you in the door.

(At least your trying) 👍

I think Im already close to getting a job, My neighbor complained and said there is no place to get your car washed. My mom said just park your car in my sons driveway and he will do it. I would probably just do a wash and wax and wheel clean gig, Car is most likely new. How much should I ask for?

You should offer her a range of prices and services. Don't just pick something arbitrarily and then try to charge her. I promise you she is expecting you to hose it down, bucket wash and be done and is expecting to pay you $5-$10.

Are you gonna clay? How long do you think it'll take you to do?

If you are going with a wash, wheels and spray wax, I would charge my neighbor's $25

Im thinking around the 25 to 35 dollar price point as I currently dont know how dirty it is. I also dont think I will be needed clay , but I dont know as of now.

If it's never been clayed it's probably going to need it. I clay'd my civic last fall and just noticed I have some roughness along the roof.

To me that's a fair price, I figure they would spend around 7-10 at a touchless, and then you're adding a wax and actually cleaning the car without harming it.

Get a few jobs under your belt and document it then use something like SnapPages - Create a Website to create a website with your information and photos. It's free.

Start using facebook as advertisement. Ask friends, family, or fellow AGer's to like it.

For business cards, I'd use YouPrint | The Easy Way to Stand Out You can get 50 cards for $25.

I would check other detailer sites to get some ideas on how to price your work. You have to start somewhere, so don't just copy and paste, price it accordingly.

Best of luck OP.

(I laughed so hard on some of the responses, I almost spit up my drink.)

Unless you know more about car detailing I would not recommend any machine buffing. Stick to the basics and have a low price point since you are probably using OTC items. Also I would not be approaching other teenagers. Focus on people that "have" money and work your way around their circle.

I used gotprint.com for my business cards, cheap standard size and they look better than vista print's (no offense)

Ok, I have an idea that no one has mentioned. I would just approach these kids and tell them that you LOVE to clean cars and you have lots of tools and waxes to use. Then tell them that you'll clean part of their car for free (the hood, trunk, whatever) and they can decide if they want you to finish the rest (for a fee). Either way, they get a clean, clayed, polished, waxed hood for free. It's a no-brainer and some are bound to bite. Good luck.

My cars from gotprint, for 250, I believe were under $30. I don't think I would of spent more than that on 250. They were glossy and had a nice standard feel and thickness to them.
