Summer coming to AZ.

I have lived here since 1967. It used to get much cooler at night but with all the new tile and asphalt, it stays above 100 in the city. I think the heat island also causes storms to go around us. I was working the day it hit 122 in what would be considered a non-seasonal outfit.

I traded my first (and last) black car 2 weeks ago. I guess I had to prove I could do it? It looked great for about 30 seconds after I finished it and was impossible to keep any LSP on if it sat in the sun for more than an hour. I think the surface heat kills everything but coatings. This is my completely unscientific and unsupported opinion.

Why do you think we have so many "snowbirds"? People who come in October, leave in late April or early May, and spend their summers back wherever they came from.

Actually, the massive influx of people, and the resulting construction of houses, roads, etc. has made the summers worse than they ever were in the past. Phoenix has become a heat island and creates it's own weather.

Tucson is somewhat better, but they're feeling the effects of population growth as well, particularly in Oro Valley.

I've been using Liquid Glass (a sealant) last 30 years. I was reluctant to put wax on the cars, but I did (over Wolfgang DGPS). I was worried that I would come out and find the wax dripping off the car. So far, it's been OK, but it's getting hotter with each passing day.

I gave up on Carnuba's a long time ago when I noticed in AZ. they did not last very long. I use to use Liquid Glass then noticed the longevity was not all that thrilling also and my 5th wheel RV was turning from white to yellow. I still have a whole gallon of that stuff in the garage. I used Zaino exclusively for 10-12 years and it held up perfectly for at least a year. I use Duragloss on the 5ver now and it has been doing a great job. I did the Daughters car with 601/105 and the Wife's Sienna with 601/501 with part of the roof with a layer of Collinite 845. So far both vehicles are doing very well. We will see on the longevity part. Kind of torn now with staying with Zaino or going Duragloss on my personal truck as it has done well and it is all that has ever been used on that vehicle and it;s a 99.

I don't know which is worse, triple digit highs (above) or double digit (below)...they both 'hurt.'

The only difference I know of you can only take so much off before arrested. I have lived in 70 below and 122 above. Your right tho, both are miserable.

Which Zaino works for you? I'm really thinking into Applying opti coat to all the vehicles.

On my last trailer I applied finish kare 1000 and that lasted quite awhile in direct sun light. New trailer I got still has oxidation with no wax, waiting until fall comes to buff it.

Yellow? Same reason I stopped using it. I would apply it about 3 times per year (starting a new car with 3 coats). Didn't really notice for years as the cars were green, brown and gold.

Didn't use it on the burgundy Pathfinder we've had all these years. Too much work. That got treated with my Waxcoa Orbital buffer and Simoniz paste wax.

When my wife got my white car rear-ended, and we tried to match the new bumper, I realized how much the Liquid Glass was yellowing the finish.

I'm in experiment mode again. So far, the Wolfgang DGPS seems to be holding up well. I've got both cars topped with a few different waxes. We'll see how they fare through the summer.

Z2 pro with ZFX additive. I can do the 3/4 ton truck with 1 oz. and 2 coats. I am thinking the DG 601/105 would work as well, that is why the tests are going on with the Wife's and Daughters vehicles. I did the 5ver a little over a year ago with 2 coats of 106/105 and it is holding up well but it is under a cover. With the Zaino maintenance was done with Z6/Z8. With the DG maintenance is done with Aqua Wax/932 no rinse (also used as a QD) or 521/921.

Does anyone here detail in this heat?? Washing and waxing is OK but still very difficult. How about compounding/polishing, anybody do it?

I know what I'm doing this weekend - hibernating LOL!

I have done the 5ver that is why I was looking for something that would last at least 6 months. The DG products and a cover seem to have met that expectation and more. Compounding and sealing 900+ square feet of fiberglass every 3 months was a challenge and I am not a spring chicken anymore. Weatherman says the month of July looks very nasty, so if you are hibernating better stock up on essentials or shop at night when it's only 105.

Found a picture of the car that's behind door #3 in my garage (it's stored)

Almost made me want to uncover it and put the wheels back on. But, you reminded me of why it should stay right where it's at until October or so.

The scary part of 116-118 is usually low and in reality it will be 2-4 or more than it is really going to be. We do not want to scare people you know.

For me, anything over 105F doesn't really make a difference. It's just HOT. LOL!
 
I have big trees on both ends of the pool. By late afternoon, no sunburn there either.

That's about the hottest the pool ever gets. Our last house didn't have any trees around it, and the summertime water temperature would be in the high 90s.

Of course, the way the wind blows, 100% of the leaves somehow end up in the pool in the fall. Large price to pay to keep the pool a little cooler.

I've done my old trailer in June, would work from 4:30am-9am every morning.
 
104 outside, hood of my black truck,(ignore the messy hood) was working In dirt all week.

Incase it's hard to read, it says 184degrees. It's hot!!! I know it's really bad for the paint, but I've always wanted to fry an egg on the hood lol.
