Griot Closeout sale

You never truly know the history and standing of a company even if you "believe they are doing well" that's an outside image. In reality (not saying this is the case) They could be in debt and forced to shut down shop. Happens all the time and most people say "I would have never known I use their stuff all the time".

Autogeek tries to bring products to us that we can't get just anywhere. Part of the mystique of being a professional in any industry is having parts and tools that the normal person has no knowledge of.

For instance, my customers almost all have Supermicro servers that I had custom built for them. They can buy a Dell in many places, but the Supermicros aren't in the normal retail channels. They're great products at good prices, and all of them have been rock solid reliable. (I've installed a few hundred of them).

Griot's Garage looks like they're trying to expand their sales. Advanced Auto (Autozone in the west) are carrying their products in hundreds of retail locations. If anyone can buy it at the corner auto parts store, the mystique is gone.

And, online sales will suffer due to easier availability.

That's most likely why the line is being discontinued at AutoGeek.

Some of the products are very good:

- Plastic Cleaner: best for plastic screens, but leaves something behind. Not a "deep cleaner". Don't think AG carries this now.

- GG6: best 6" DA < $200. Lifetime warranty is awesome (I hope).

- Paint Prep: I'll miss this one.

- Glass Sealant: Seems the same as Pinnacle.

- Sprayers: Same as Rubbermaid Pro, that's a good thing.

- Spray Wax: Not bad, but there are better.

Some of the stuff is just so-so:

- LSPs: never caught on

-Polishes: "" ""

- Rubber Cleaner: No where near as good as Tuff Shine. As good as any diluted APC.

-Spray On Car Wash: $17 for 35 oz of non concentrated waterless wash - Are you kidding me?

-Car Wash (and Wax): Ho Hum at best

-3" Pads: way too flimsy

- Glass Pads: Can jack up your glass

- Speed Shine: wasn't a fan. There are much better QDs out there.

Except for Paint Prep, I won't miss them. Of course, the 6" polisher loss could be bad for AG. Maybe AG should get the same Chinese factory that makes the GG6 and get their name on it, offer a lifetime warranty as well.

Maybe Griots gave away too many GG6 free under warranty to stay profitable? Doubt it.

I'm pretty sure Griots is fine, but AG is just blasting them out to make room for Wolfes and Auto Finesse - as these are being sold at Autopia.

Only AG knows the real answer (for now). If AG is dropping the line it's probably over some behind the scene stuff like sales percentages or marketing fees and such. Or maybe AG has just decided to be creative and have a promotion on the whole line. Stay tuned for the answer.

I'm going to assume that the line is being dropped. I say that because Advance Auto Parts carries the line and people can now pick up items locally and not have to pay astronomical shipping fees. I understand that Meguiar's and Mothers can be found this way as well but their names are stronger in retail.

That sounds like a plausible scenario. I was just at my local AutoBarn and they now have a whole bunch of stuff from Collinite, P21s, S100, and Sonax. That being said I usually don't have emergencies and can wait for a deal with free shipping or a sale which negates the charges. When/if sales tax gets charged, that will be another story.

If Advance Auto was the cause then they would not be selling Mothers, Mequiars, and other brands. I am sure it is either lack of sales or some financial reason such as profit margins (Griot's raised the wholesale prices?). They do not have to carry the entire line. I think Griots had a few very good products and AG should continue to sell a select group of the popular ones.

There are always way to avoid free shipping minimums from PBMG by ordering through amazon.com where shipping is less on smaller orders and there are some freeship codes floating around too but you do not get the discount.

My prediction is Advance Auto / Autozone will drop the line within the next 6 mos. They've already started cutting the gallon sizes they sell. I mean really...who is going to buy a gallon of that stuff for thirty to forty bucks at Advance Auto? Those buyers want Turtle Wax. They are looking to spend $25 and get EVERYTHING they need to detail a car - not one product.

People that go there mostly want cheap stuff. They are not going to spend $17 for 3 towels or $30 for a drying towel??? They aren't knowledgable enough to know the benefits of higher quality towels. The Griots stuff I see just seems to sit there with little interest. Only one I ever see perusing it is me waiting for it to go on clearance like a vulture.

Maybe others have different experiences, but the Advance Autos I have been to have a very limited supply of Griot's products.

I suspect that AG is just no longer carrying the line.

I'm going to have to not break a tear if they go out of business. For years they have never innovated in order to compete with high quality products such as optimum megs etc. and doesn't know how to go after the mass market like turtle wax mothers and so on. They are stuck in the muddy middle with a very boring and stale line. Just my .02.

I've been a customer of theirs since 2005 and their customer service is TOP NOTCH, many companies could learn from them for sure! As far as their products go, well IMO they perform as advertised and I've always liked them....a lot and their 6" RO makes things a lot easier for me and is easy to use.

I'd be shocked if they were going out of business as they just bought that old Coke plant out in Washington, it would be a damn shame:-(

I just bought a 6" GG polisher and it would be good to know something...

I started buying thier products on rainforest store due to the free shipping and I have a prime membership - I would AG would do something similar. I would buy more from the site.

I like the Speed Shine, just bought a gallon at AA, and it was 27 dollars. I also like glass sealant, leather reju, carpet cleaner, spray wax, and rubber cleaner.

I was about to buy a Griot's Da, but a lifetime warranty on a product that's no longer available, if, in fact, that's the case, isn't worth very much.

Agreed. I have been with them mcu longer than AG. They are the top Customer Service company that I have ever dealt with. I would sadly miss many of their products. I use more of their stuff than anyone elses.

I doubt they are going out of business. I just think AG is dropping them for whatever reason. I usually buy my GG direct from GG anyway.

I would buy the GG DA since it is the best one in the price range. In fact, I use mine more than my Flex 3401.

I understand the lifetime warranty is useless should the company close, but, I bet that is not the case. The point is, the polisher is very good at its price point.

The limitations these part stores and box stores have is they are limited to how much shelf space they have and how quick a product needs to be turned. Our format with lines like Meguair’s, Mothers, and Griot’s allows us to be able to offer the full line and the popular large sizes. Those Stores virtually have no impact on Autogeek sales except giving more exposure to these lines. In addition to this we also have an awesome crew for tech support to answer questions, excellent customer service and like no one else in the industry. Not to mention, we provide this great forum where we have all of you who assist each other and have access to representatives from most of the brands we sell.

So is this just a sale on Griots products, or are you discontinuing carrying the line?

Thanks!

Meghan--the all important question that needs answered is why the close out sale?? You see the rumors that Griots is going belly up.
