Geeks & Guitars? - Guitar Roll Call

A number of my buddies play guitars, Mike Gelter being one of them, our own Yancy being another and my son yet another...

Mike dropped off his 1947 Buick Slantback Sedan today and while he was here he wanted to show me the Fender Stratocaster 12-String Guitar he just bought...

I have an acoustic and I'll post a picture of it tomorrow...

Who else we have that plays guitars?

This photo brought a memory into my head.

When I was growing up, my mother had a picture of my grandfather (her father), that was taken right in front of a lamp. Positioned perfectly. It was a browned out black and white photo.

So, the whole time I was growing up, I thought my grandfather had a ponytail. I was only 2 months old when he died, so I never saw him (at least don't remember).

He was from the Netherlands.

When I was in Europe for the IAEA, we took a vacation and found all of his relatives, so I got to know a lot more about him and the family.

But, I'll never forget thinking that he had a ponytail. Looking closely, I can see that it's the base of the lamp.

I own a black Ibanez RG550 that was upgraded with Dimarzio Evolutions at the bridge and neck and Fender Lace Sensor in the middle position.

The thing has its battle scars and has been sitting in storage for 5+yrs now. I wonder how it's doing....

I play as well. Actually I'm a hack but I love it. As my buddy says..."if you payed to see me play, you'd be really disappointed".

I'm guessing Lake Placid Blue in the OP? Beautiful axe!

I've been a working musician for many years longer than I've been a detailer. Some nice parallel ground, though, especially with modern poly finishes. I've detailed more instruments than I have cars!

Here's one of my workhorses - a Mike Lull M5V. This bass has IT.

Here's my Roscoe koa-topped bass, from a recording session late last year:

This is from a really cool show last year in Oakland, with the band Maybe Tuesday. Fun day, big venue...opening for Jeffrey Osborne.

And, heck, self-promotion...if anyone needs a bass player: Electric Bassist Jerry Burdick - www.lownote.org'

Currently I have 2 Warwick basses, Carvin kit bass, an Alvarez 5 string bass, Washburn acoustic bass and a Squier Telecaster.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaan you're killin' me. I bought an Upton about 9 years ago. Had to sell her when money got tight. Not a day goes by that I don't miss her.

Not to hijack the thread but this was my collection in it's heyday. Only the Tele isn't pictured.

I have a Les Laul Classic Plus, but I'm a working drummer by trade.

Love the guitars!!

I have 2 Uptons!

Which I would never sell, the other one is a Shen

I did have a blonde Engelhardt, which was my first official sale. The new owner dropped it and broke it.

Once I heard this, I never sold a professionally built bass again.

This is my cheap Chinese bass $600 lol

my first bass that I posted the Upton bass, i could buy a lot of Rupes machines with the money if i were to sell it lol

Your also a bass player! Nice...

I played orchestra in HS, I learned how to read music and follow the conductor lol
Try as I might, I never learned to read music. I was never a great student in general and in music I found that I learned more my listening so that's what always worked for me. My Upton was a Jazz/Bluegrass Hybrid which was renamed a few years later. Gary is a great guy to deal with. I jokingly asked him about some wood that he had chopped down and he quoted me a price of almost 16k for a bass that would be about 6 years away. A "bit" out of my budget.
