Random Orbital OK on boat gel coat?

Thank you for the tips. Mike, I tried a small test spot as you suggested, the Griot's MF finishing pad with the M105 on high speed. Only tried it on the yellow below the rub rail, and it did pretty good. Shine didn't improve all that much, hardly any, really, but it did remove some of the...

Random Orbital OK on boat gel coat?

Arrrrrrggghhhh!!!! The internet is great, so much information, just a mouse click away...The internet is terrible, so much information, just a mouse click away  I have the Griot's Garage 6" Dual Action polisher. Pads I have for it are the Griot's Orange Foam Correcting pads and the...

Meg's Ultimate Paste Wax, how long before wash?

Just corrected/polished/waxed using Meguiar's M105 and Ultimate Compound, as needed. Then polished with Ultimate Polish and finished with the Ultimate Paste Wax. The wax went on about 12-14 hours ago. I'm having to do this in steps as time allows, so today is the roof and passenger side which...

    GG6 vibration?

Just bought one and used for the first time tonight. Worked only on the trunk to give it a go. At first, it seemed surprisingly smooth, I was impressed...but a little bit into it, as the pads began to saturate, the vibrations got noticably stronger. I assume this is normal as the pads get...

Mid winter warm weekend...need quick suggestion.

The Speed Clay 2.0 pad isn't actually a clay, more of a Nanoskin type of foam pad. They're claim is "Clay as you wash" using it instead of the traditional towels/rags/mitts. Part 2 of Mother's how to video shows the steps I'm talking about. Wash once with soap and towel, wash and "clay" again...

Mid winter warm weekend...need quick suggestion.

It's been unusually cold here since I bought this car right around Christmas. It's a 2010 and needs a little paint love. I plan on doing a major correction process in spring but want to take advantage of this warmer weekend and do what I can. The car is a BMW 335i in LeMans Blue. It has...

    Are these buffer/polishers a no-no?

It looks like the GG6 is the most recommended so far. Coincidentally, I stopped by a couple of local auto parts stores today and saw they both now carry a Griot's Garage 6" DA along with 3 different pads for them. Not sure if we're allowed to post links to outside retailers here, so I won't...

    Are these buffer/polishers a no-no?

I see. My only experience with them was many years ago, on an 80's model BMW. It was red and faded, and did a good job(or so I thought at the time) of bringing it back to a nice shine. My fear of faster/stronger buffer/polishers is the possibility of burning through the paint.

    Are these buffer/polishers a no-no?

I've been doing a lot of reading lately on the various steps of paint restoration and polishing cars, and what I never see or hear is wether or not the pictured type of polishers are ok to use or if they should be strictly avoided. Some insight would be appreciated. To add, I'm just a weekend...

    Greetings from Nashville, TN.

Hey, everyone. New here, and new to the world of paint restoration and detailing. What brought me here was having bought a now 7-8 year old car that appears to have been left outside its entire life. I think it's salvageable, and I'm going to give it my best shot.
